OSU Recruiting Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Watching him play for UM with that block O tat would be special.

Truthfully, he's never really convinced me he could grow into the special player he looked like as a freshman.

This is why chasing middle schoolers is problematic, in the football sense of course.

Braxton is my personal favorite Buckeye, but I really believe Emory Jones in '18 is going to be our first true superstar at QB. I watched his film after he committed and he is a special, special thrower.

I don't know if I'm watching the right one-minute videos of the guy getting all excited pre game, but I'm not sure what's special about Martell from a passing perspective?

I seriously don't think I'm seeing the proper footage. Does anyone have a direction in which they can point me?

He's got a good arm, pretty accurate. Of course, a dual-threat, so can still throw the deep ball well b/c he can roll out of the pocket. High IQ. Mainly the best from 10-15yds.

It is going to be fun/possibly frustrating seeing how this all plays out in 2 years. What if JT stays one more year? Burrow/Haskins/Martell/Emory(in 2 years)

At least 1, if not 2 of them will have to transfer, as we will most likely have another great QB coming in 2019 Meyer covets.

He has a good arm and accuracy, great mobility with nice escape ability. He's a Manziel/Russell Wilson type player. Not saying that he's on the same level as those guys (Manziel in college...), but that's what he could potentially bring to the table in terms of a skill set.

He has also been our best player-recruiter in the class so he has definitely been an excellent choice by Urban.

This.

“It’s just guys that I was trying to go after, [guys] I knew that we had a shot at,” Martell said. “And I know if I stay consistent with a lot of guys and build a good relationship with ‘em, I think you have a better chance if you do that than not talking to ‘em.”

“You want to establish that leadership role before, ‘cause then you kind of come in with a certain respect — especially with the guys. But then you see, the guys that are here see you’re all about the team,” he said.

Here was his whiteboard of recruits he was going after. We secured a lot. Not saying it's all because of him, but people like him and is respected, so I am sure it helped:

I know people probably won't watch it (shit, I am not) but #1 Bishop Gorman takes on #7 St. Thomas Aquinas tomorrow.

St. Thomas - 5* WR Trevon Grimes

Bishop Gorman - 5* QB Tate Martell / 5* WR Tyjon Lindsey / 4/5* DT Haskell Garrett / + 4* S Bubba Bolden who Tate is recruiting. Crystal ball has him 50% OSU right now.

Should be fun to see the highlights of this game. St. Thomas lost their 1 game of the year when Grimes got tackled an inch away from the goal line on the last play of the game. Bishop Gorman is on like a 40 game win streak right now.

So maybe this will be a good game to watch the highlights of @MGMT

Been rumblings about that the last couple days. He wanted to enroll early and OSU just didn't have the space to accommodate that, especially with Moretti rehabbing an ACL injury. Thayer Munford, come on down!

Let's look at the Rivals top 33:

1 - DT Marvin Wilson - Official visit to OSU this summer (in the ballgame, longshot)

3 - WR Trevon Grimes - Will commit to OSU later this summer

6 - LB Baron Browning - OSU currently leads, if they get Okudah they'll get him

9 - S Jeffery Okudah - OSU has been the leader for a while

10 - DB LaMont Wade - OSU leads, been there more than any place else. Long way to go.

11 - WR Donovan Peoples-Jones - TTUN pushing hard, OSU has the flag planted at Cass Tech. No idea how this ends up.

13 - OLB Dylan Moses - Official visit to OSU this summer (might not be in this one though)

14 - OL Josh Myers - Committed to OSU

15 - DB Darnay Holmes - OSU/Michigan/USC battle, but OSU leads IMO

16 - Shaun Wade - Committed to OSU

18 - Wyatt Davis - Committing to OSU today

27 - Cam Akers - Only other RB they're going at, they think they get him

31 - Tate Martell - The Scarlet Viper of House Martell, committed to OSU

33 - Tyjon Lindsey - Committing to OSU later this summer

All in all, I think they land at least 10 with the opportunity to land 12 out of the Rivals Top 33.

Do y'all realize how actually insane that is?

Bumping this from June, big recruiting weekend for OSU:

Cross off Lamont Wade (no longer being recruited), Peoples-Jones (UM), Dylan Moses (Bama)

You're left with:

Marvin Wilson - #3 player in the nation. Was on campus this weekend, and supposedly made a huge impression. Buckeyes cannot be considered the favorite, but the news today is that Urban Meyer will have an in home visit very soon (maybe today).

They're in it, but I still think he goes elsewhere.

Baron Browning - Nation's best LB. OSU vs Alabama battle, this was was trending all OSU before Bama came hard charging late. Think he was leaning toward Bama, but was on campus for the win this weekend and has delayed his commitment date.

Good news for OSU, their thinking is they've got him back.

Jeff Okudah - Seems to be the guy recruiting Browning to OSU. This dude is a Buckeye. 5-star defensive back.

Darnay Holmes - Being given the hometown superstar treatment by UCLA, but was another 5-star on campus for the game this weekend. Got the full experience and both parents were there to join him, the Buckeyes will battle to the end with the Bruins.

Shaun Wade - Took a visit to Bama this weekend and he's a potential flip to the Tide. Not over yet, OSU has an in home visit to lock him down.

Cam Akers - Don't really have much of a handle here, he also took his official visit to Columbus this weekend (as everyone else did). Ole Miss is in it, Bama is in it if they don't keep Najee Murray, OSU might be in it with or without JK Dobbins in the fold.

The New Crowd:

Pete Werner - Linebacker was committed to Notre Dame before de-committing earlier today. Trending OSU very quickly, this could be a flip situation. Insiders believe it to be a foregone conclusion.

Trey Smith - Monster offensive tackle from Tennessee is one of the most well spoken kids I've ever seen, in addition to being a 6'6 future first round pick at tackle. Visited this weekend for The Game, and hung out with Okudah and Marvin Wilson. Three way battle with Bama, OSU and Tennessee. I think it's trending Bama.

Thayer Munford - If Smith goes to Bama or UT, Munford is the backup plan. Another 6'6, 325 lb monster, he's also a local kid from Massilon Washington.

Jay Tufele - Quiet kid from Utah doesn't do a lot of recruiting stuff, but OSU is fighting HARD for him and got him to campus this weekend. The interest is legit, and I think they wind up with him if they don't get the other DT Big Marv to commit.

Bubba Bolden - Teammate of the multiple commits from Bishop Gorman in Vegas. He's a Buckeye if they need him to be (aka losing out on Okudah or Wade).

All the coaches are on the road this week meeting with kids, major advantage over teams like Alabama who are busy playing for a meaningless conference championship.

One more to add to the list:

Kendall Sheffield

Former 5-star out of Texas spent a year at Alabama before transferring due to some strained relationships.

He was in OSU this weekend, he was offered, he's a fucking stud.

With Conley and Lattimore likely gone, he will step in and start at CB from the minute he steps on campus, IMO.

Battle is between OSU and USC I believe.

Antjuan Simmons de-committed last night. Four star OLB out of Ann Arbor Pioneer HS. He took an visit to Michigan State a couple weeks ago without the staff's approval, so that is a possible landing spot for him. Seems like Notre Dame could get involved as well, ironically looking at Simmons as a replacement for Pete Werner.
