Per Windy tweet: Chance Cavs will make roster move this week

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I just read something coming from a poster on a Suns forum over at realgm, that what he considered to be one of their reliable guys when it comes to trade information has said the Suns are trying to get a couple of the non guranteed contracts from the Cavs to cut them.

This is the post from the guy he considered to be reliable:

But this is the internet, so I would take it with a grain of salt ofcourse. Could be just someone spitting our garbage, Im trying to research the source a little more but I'm not putting a whole lot of stock in it. Be nice if we really did have a couple teams competing for our contracts, could mean someone throwing in a nice pick to beat out other teams.

Seeing as Sarver has done business with Ferry recently (on a salary cut), and the fact that Phoenix is probably trying to get below the luxury tax threshold, this definitely would make sense.

The only guy I could definitely see Cleveland wanting is Robin Lopez, and maybe Dudley.

Other guys available that would make the likely scenario work are Collins, Amundson, and possibly Griffin (recently sent to D-League).

Yep.

I bet Channing Frye and Jared Dudley are the two guys Ferry is trying to get ahold of.

Both can shoot the basketball and have been linked to Ferry in the past.

There's no way they give up Frye (you've mentioned that yourself), and I would be shocked if they gave up on Clark this early for a mere $3 million or so in savings (which still keeps them above the luxury tax).

Dudley makes a lot of sense honestly.

He's a defensive/hustle guy that shoots the three and can play both wing positions. Delonte insurance+Moon replacement while hes injured.

The Suns shouldn't want to give him up, but $arver gave up Luol Deng and Rajon Rondo for 3 million a piece essentially.

If we're giving up some combo of Koby Karl, Jawad Williams and/or Darnell Jackson? Wow, talk about somethin for nothin...

My trade idea:

Cleveland trades: Coby Karl, Jawad Williams
Cleveland gets: Robin Lopez

Phoenix trades: Robin Lopez
Phoenix gets: Coby Karl*, Jawad Williams*

*Unguaranteed

Why for Cleveland: They get a young project center who could be a decent back up in the future. This also gives them some depth if Big Z was to be traded (and then bought out).

Why for Phoenix: They save $3,491,040 this year with this deal. Is that enough for them to part with Lopez? That's up for discussion. They also save $1,867,320 next year, for a total of $5,358,360 in savings.

My calculations: According to Sham, Robin Lopez makes $1,745,520 this year. That salary is doubled since they are over the luxury tax. Then I added his salary for next year (not that it matters much, as this is mostly concerns this year).

"Players whose contracts are not guaranteed are included in team salary in the amount they made while they were with the team."

Since neither player would be with the Suns very long, whatever they get paid is negligible.

Note: I also wouldn't mind getting Dudley, but I think he would only be useful for a short time. Lopez could be useful in the future, too. Obviously their savings would be different if we got Dudley instead of Lopez.

I'm sure they could get a solid scouting report on Lopez from Shaq... didnt he have to ream the lesser brother of Brooke for not hustling last year?

The guy would be bench filler here, not unlike the crew being discussed in the trade for him. I would think Ferry could do better. Maybe a more athletic big who can hit a jumper?

You have to understand, this is just our minor move that we need to get done this week because of NBA deadlines. Even if we make a move like this, Ferry will still likely make a bigger splash at the deadline.

I should also add the reason I don't think it's Dudley.

They have two unguaranteed contracts of their own in Collins and Griffin. If they were to cut them both- they would have about $426,829 for their team salary. Saving them $1,712,512.

If they traded Dudley they would save $2,615,280. Is that a big enough difference to trade him than cut the two players? I don't think so, but it might be to Phoenix. Also of note, is Phoenix would save an additional $2,151,068 next year by trading Dudley. So they would get more savings in following years (but they aren't over the Lux Tax next year).

Anyways, that's why I think it would be Lopez. Could be wrong, though.

Frye and Dudley? These are rotation type players on a good (not great) team. Dudley is playing 24 minutes/game, averaging 9 points and shooting 50% on threes. With Moon out, the Cavs could actually use him for the next few weeks, though long-term how much of a role would he have? Still, it's just hard to imagine PHX giving him up, much less Frye. I'm guessing Amundson or Lopez is more likely. Maybe Jarron Collins, though the Cavs could have picked him up in the off-season. Maybe we can get our second round pick back too.

Why do you think Dudley would only be useful for a short time?

Where is he on the depth chart after Moon comes back? ... filling in Jawad's place on the bench. With Delonte, Parker, Lebron, and Moon here for at least this year and next (barring a trade), he's getting paid a lot for a job of a 12-15th man. Just my opinion.

What is Joe Alexander's situation in Milwaukee? They are over the cap now and won't resign him - and I think they've held him from playing at all this year?

We'd probably be able to get a 2nd round pick along with him - though I don't know if it's worth giving up D.Jack for Alexander.... maybe we could wrestle away Luc Richard Mbah a Moute?

They wouldn't give us LMAM. JA's salary is also too high to give them unguaranteed contract for. Don't see a deal there without us giving up a credible player.

I've been thinking along the same lines - I think a guy like Balkman or Amundson, another tough energy guy could be useful depending on how a later trade rolls down. It'd be cool to trade Karl to the Nuggets too.

Denver would first have to cut Joey Graham (not sure how likely that is) before we could trade them three players for Balkman. Could happen I guess.

Problem with the Suns is they only have 13 players on their roster if we send them two contracts for one of theirs they could only waive one to keep to the league minimum on their roster. The deal can be done but it cuts into the savings.

Maybe Ferry can rip Sarver off again and nab Amare. haha i wish.
