Posey signs with Hornets. PIP suicide watch is on

Re: Posey To Make Choice In A Month Or Two

Cant blame the hornets, they have alot of nice young pieces that just need the right compliment. Paul is one of my favorite players to watch play. He truly is a joy to watch, and posey would be a great piece for them off the bench.

Yes and for the Hornets, maybe a Posey is enough to get you where you want to be. For us it's not. We have no trades hanging in the balance. Even without expirings there is no guarantee we make a deadline deal in February again. We get a Posey and we don't become Championship caliber. He's coming off teams that had 2-3 All-Star caliber players and future Hall of Famers. Before that, he enjoyed a nice 8 years of losing. We can't expect Ferry to go all out for 4-5 years on a Posey who is nothing but a backup that can put you over the top contingent on multiple stars. It may have been worth the risk had we hit a homerun in the trade market this offseason but it would be too risky at this point.

Re: Posey To Make Choice In A Month Or Two

Thing is I probably would give hime the 4 years, our back is against the wall to get pieces. Free agency is only going to give us solid depth, and thats what posey is, any starter needs to come via trade or draft. But, in the end, this is a judgement call and if he feels 4 is too long i cant argue with him on that. W&G, how long would you go if you were GM? Do you think bringing him in this year is worth eating a year or two?

I'd hold off on going the fourth year .. ...and I think the deal is this, we think we might have enough right now on the table..., and even if he passes we already have other plans we're working on that can effectively address our perimter defense issues...

It's obvious he wants to stay in Boston, as I've said all along ...I think we make a good second option because he can be in Cleveland, where he has alot of family here still, and play on a team that can contend for it all ...but, all the thoughts and feeling he has towards Boston are positive ...he just won it all with them and everything there looks perfect.. it's always great to defend a crown ..

Re: Posey To Make Choice In A Month Or Two

Just got back from 4 days in New England and although there wasn't a ton of info on Posey's situation, everything did reinforce what's been discussed already. It's going to come down to who caves in on the number of years that Posey and his agent are seeking. Right now Boston isn't blinking yet from their offer so Cavs remain strongly in the hunt.

Posey is a nice player and would help but I can completely understand why the Cavs wouldn't go longer than 3 years. It's a risk going too long for a perimeter player who will turn 32 next Jan. We could easily see Posey suffer a dropoff in a couple of years.
Teams need to be careful and not overpay or go too long in contracts for role players. Those are the type of contracts that cause salary cap and payroll problems. Cavs did that a few years ago with Jones and Marshall and it came back to bite them. Paxson did it with Newble and Ollie and it was a big mistake. Good organizations don't go overboard in bidding wars for role players.
I can't be too upset if the Cavs don't get Posey because they refused to go to 4 or 5 years on a contract.

Re: Posey To Make Choice In A Month Or Two

Posey is a good sixth man, but not a starter, if he was a bargain get him, but since he isn't I vote pass and go after CJ MILES.

Posey played down the possibility of returning to Cleveland, his hometown, though an NBA source said the Cavaliers might up the ante in an effort to get a talented player to aid LeBron James.

Other teams interested in Posey include Detroit, New Orleans, Washington, and the Lakers. Mark Bartelstein, who represents both Posey and House, hoped to have something in place yesterday, but he said there was nothing new with either client. Celtics general manager Danny Ainge greeted Posey last night but said there was no news on the situation.

"It's never been a big thing," Posey said of a possible move to Cleveland. "To go back home is cool. It's your hometown. But, at the same time, my family understands. If it's somewhere else, they support me anywhere I go, so it doesn't even matter about that."

The Celtics' success last season could influence Posey's decision.

"You have to look at it on both sides, what we accomplished this past season and the business side," Posey said. "With that, you take it and move on with it. At the end of the day both sides are going to do what's best for themselves.

"I talked to those guys [teammates], but at the same time they can only do so much. It helps for them to be in my corner and to want me back and things like that. I guess they are doing their part in helping this process speed up a little bit. At the end of the day, it's how the organization feels."

Asked when a deal could be concluded, Posey said, "Hopefully soon. It's like college recruiting again. It's speculation and all talk. It's just the nature of it. It's not fun, but . . . until it happens, I won't feel a relief."

The bold is not describing Posey, Maybe we're going after JR SMITH, CHILDRESS, or MILES??? We already have enough shooters that can't create thir own shot. All three above mentioned names could play Defense if they wanted too. Wally can't, Gibson is too slight, Sasha and AV hopefully didn't eat as much this offseason. We need people who can get their own shot and finish.

Re: Posey To Make Choice In A Month Or Two

I'm sure since I want nothing to do with this guy Ferry is inking him to a 5 year full MLE deal as we speak.

Re: Posey To Make Choice In A Month Or Two

This whole thing is ridiculous. There is so much hype around free agency that a mediocre guy like Posey is being made to seem like he is going to change the landscape of a team. He isn't going to change hardly anything. He is useful, but if you think Lebron James' job is going to get easier because Posey joins the ranks, you must be delusional.

¿Qué? (CJ Miles... my bad, I thought someone was talking Darius... should've read more of this monster thread)

I'm not a fan of giving Posey 4 years, but I understand why they'd do it. It's never a good thing to overpay for a role player coming off a strong playoff performance (Tyronn Lue anyone?). But if Posey helps win a championship... and in turn helps LeBron re-sign... dealing with a bad contract in 3 years isn't a terrible price to pay (they just can't have multiple guys with bad deals on the roster... you know, like Newble, Snow, Jones, Marshall and Hughes...).

I'd like to see the Cavs force Atlanta to match on one of their RFAs and I'd love to see them take a flier on Shaun Livingston and see if they could get lucky. But any earth shaking moves will be made in the trade market, not free agency.

I'm starting to lose steam on Posey...get on with it and pick a team. W & G must be dead on when he says that his agent just keeps taking other offers back to Boston to try and get them to sweeten the deal. If that's the case, that is annoying.

Offer the MLE to Childress, get Livingston for the BAE, and win it all next year right in Posey's face.

Re: Posey To Make Choice In A Month Or Two

I say MLE to any of these guys and I'd be happy

1. Childress
2. NENAD
3. JR SMITH
4. CJ MILES (LESS THAN MLE)

BAE definetely on Livingston 2 years guaranteed w/team option for a third year. I want young guys, not over the hill ones that score 8ppg for their career.

Re: Posey To Make Choice In A Month Or Two

Anybody talking Josh Childress is on my good side right now.

I'll take either Childress or Miles. Childress at full MLE and Miles at whatever it may take for Utah not to match up.

Start a Childress thread, I need something to do at work today.

Re: Posey To Make Choice In A Month Or Two

I think a 3 year deal at 12 mill would do it, Utah is loaded @ the 2 now. I hope Ferry signs someone decent.

Re: Posey To Make Choice In A Month Or Two

I would shoot for either Childress or Smith, both can potentially be our starting sg and both can score in bunches. Childress is bigger though so I like him more. Also Smith doesn't try to much on defense but then again browns done more with less.
