Potential 2019 Head coaches for the Browns

I like Kitchens a lot. I do not think he’s anywhere near ready to be a head coach. I have no loved how he has handled late game situations. Far too conservative for my liking. Baker has been money in all three wins and he’s mostly taken the ball out of his hands late.
Do I like it? No. Has it cost us any games yet? No. Hard to complain too much if it isn't affecting W/L.

I mean, look, if we cannot get the tippy top of our list, why not go with either Arians and Kitchens or straight up Kitchens? Most guys love a guy like Zac Taylor, and he's nothing more than a QB coach and has proven less than Kitchens.

All this to say, if the Browns finish the season off like I think/know they can, Gregg Williams might be plan B. And with how the team has clearly responded and how he has handled himself since taking over, it's not the worst idea.

But man, do I want Riley or Campbell badly. Taub and Bieniemy are next on the list and then probably just keeping the current staff.

Campbell just signed an extension. Probably not going anywhere this year.

I actually think Bowles probably gets unfairly criticized for his Jets tenure. That roster is dogshit and continues to get worse. I'd love him to be DC if we decide to move away from Gregg.

Yeah, that roster is way worse than ours and he's already won more games this year than Hue Jackson won in two and a half here. The issue is that he's a defensive-minded coach in an offensive league, and the Jets are likely going to want to bring someone in who can better shepherd Darnold's development, and I think that makes a ton of sense.

But no denying that he's getting about as much out of that roster as you'd expect. I think taking that team to five wins (they're at four now) would be an accomplishment. With three games left and New England potentially resting their starters in week 17, that seems doable. But even four wins wouldn't be awful considering how shitty that roster is. There's not a single star player to be seen on the offensive end. We have (at least) three this season.

This could have very well been brought up and shot down in this thread, but what if we just hired Freddie to be head coach? Keeping him seems to be a big reason people are intrigued by Arians, the same goes for the Gregggg crowd.

If we brought someone else in as head coach and Freddie as OC, he would likely be gone in a year or two (assuming we are good).

I get the downside. He doesn't have a lot of experience calling plays, but he's doing a damn good job of it so far. And while his playcalling experience is limited, he has been a position coach in the league since 2006. It's not like he's new to the NFL.

If we are afraid about losing a young, innovative offensive mind who seems to understand how to get a lot out of Baker, then why don't we just make sure we keep him here and give him the job?

In fairness, “dogshit” and “above average” could mean the same thing, depending on who you ask.

With that said, Bowles is a guy who is best served to be a defensive coordinator and performed well in that role in the past.

The decision to go for it was correct IMO

The timeout on the hard count was yikes

Not running a QB sneak was yikes

That QB sneak works like 85-90% of the time. What’s with all the overthinking of it
Not running a sneak is on Kitchens

I'm coming around on Gregg Williams if they decide to make him the head coach. Keep Kitchens and bring in a defensive coordinator to build a better scheme with Gregg.

The time out negating the hard count was a total choke job by Williams.

And I disagree on the FG, kicking it and forcing the Broncos to score a TD was the correct decision.

I had at least left the door open for keeping GW as head coach, tonight slammed that door shut hard for me.

A lot can happen 2 weeks. But it looks like the Browns will be a very desirable job. Gregg not screwing things up is certainly a sizeable part of that. Gregg will always have my respect for that.
