A few rules I''ve been living by:
1. My teams in the past have always been great until injuries hit. Let's say you draft Thomas Jones and Brandon Jacobs at running back. You know they are going to miss a game or two during the season, maybe more if a serious injury hits. Why target backups on the Titans and Ravens? You just end up with bad numbers and a death wish for Ray Rice and Chris Johnson. I have been all about drafting other positions besides running back in the early rounds and reaching (slightly) for the hand-cuff runnning back in later rounds.
2. Screw drafting backup tight ends. Who is the first guy you drop in week 2 when some unknown wide receiver goes off for 130 yards? Yep, the backup tight end.
3. If you are drafting for defense, don't pick the most talented team, go for the most well coached defense. Talent gets injured, but a great defensive coordinator doesn't get brain injuries very often. I'm all for keeping two defenses on the roster at all times. That way, if one of them has to play the Patriots, you can bench the better defense for the average one that is playing Kansas City.
