Rodney Hood: Won't be missed

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So they only played 55 minutes without either of Gobert and Favors. They scored 1.09 points per possession, and gave up 1.17 points per possession.

In those scenarios, though, the two bigs were exclusively Boris Diaw and Jeff Withey. Whatever people's thoughts on TT and Larry Nance Jr., I think our bigs are better defensively than Diaw and Withey. Plus, offense with LeBron should be better too.

Nah, Withey and Diaw are better than Love and TT as defenders.

Salary Cap Question for People:

What is Rodney Hood's cap hold at the end of the season?

The $2M salary suggests it will be small, much less than the $12-15M/year he might eventually get.

OTOH, he is restricted, so if he signs an offer sheet with another team, does his cap hold for the Cavs immediately go up to that value?

I guess that if the Cavs want to play cap gymnastics, for instance by receiving a player in a S&T, then they need to agree in principle to a deal with Hood, encourage him not to sign an offer sheet, finish that deal, and then sign Hood.

Is that correct?

His cap hold will be $7.16M; and AFAIK it does not increase if he signs an offer sheet.

But the Cavs will be $14M over the tax line before re-signing Hood, and thus roughly $8M over the apron. So for us to do a S&T, we'd need to end up at $130M in salary and could not exceed it for the year since we'd be hard-capped. This means we could not use Hood's Bird Rights to match an offer sheet to exceed the apron.

So, it's kind of a moot point as to the logistics of him receiving an offer sheet since, no matter what, the Cavs would need to end up below the apron post-S&T (and remain there for the season).

The only two players I can think we'd do something like this for would be Paul George or CP3. Given how well the Rockets are playing, I can't see CP3 getting traded. But George, that's a possibility. If he tells OKC he's going to LA, it would make sense for them to trade him to Cleveland (for whatever assets they can get).

Either way, we'd almost assuredly need to send out two of JR Smith, Tristan Thompson, and/or George Hill if we were keeping Kevin Love in such a deal, and it'd make no sense to trade Love for George in an S&T.

Nah, Withey and Diaw are better than Love and TT as defenders.

Withey is but Diaw is awful. I remember when the Heat played the Spurs in the FInals and Lebron would immediately call an iso against him

Thanks, I forgot that we would be hard capped afterwards.

Withey was one of the best rim protectors in the league when he was in Utah and Diaw historically was a solid defender, not great, but definitely better than Love.

Even if he isn't, Withey is the last line of defense and he is by far better than anyone we have at the 5.

We just have to wait and see how Hood defends as a cavalier.

I don't know why I'm getting disagrees, I can prove the above claim with every stat imaginable.

Pretty interesting. People are saying both things in regards to his defense. Some say better than average others say terrible.

If he had been saving it for offense, no need here. Defend and hit open shots

Reading the jazz forum the jazz radio crushed hood on the way out the door.

Said there was a gift between hood and the fo already.
Called him soft for only playing when 100 percent healthy as in won't '''tough it out"
Talked bad about his shooting habits and soft defense.

They think they got an overall tougher player.

I'd look to lock Hood up for a Shumpert-esque contract. 4/40ish.

Injury prone SG... hopefully it would work out better this time....

At least Hood can shoot unlike Shump. That skill tends to stick around regardless.

Who is a better player Rodney hood or Larry Hughes.

That suggests very much an issue of attitude/effort. He's good when he cares, crappy when he doesn't. Hopefully the change of scenery and culture will help with that.

Yeah.

Hood has the length and quickness to be a good defender but we didn't see that enough for the Jazz. It was ok because they had Gobert and Favours etc who were excellent defenders but we need Hood to give a fuck on the defensive end here.

Also, Hood won't have as much responsibility on the offensive end as well. So may be that will help him conserve his energy to defend better.

I don't know where this idea is coming from that Hood has great length.

He's 6'8.5" with a 6'8.5" wingspan.

I think it's a good sign too. He mentions defense as a way he can impact the game in his interview after practice. I never ever heard Kyrie say the words defense. I hope he takes it to heart

He's so skinny he looks long which likely makes people think he's got great length
