Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
After seeing it twice, my order goes like this
Oiriginal Trilogy
Rogue One
TFA
Prequels

Empire
....
....
....
....
....
ANH
ROTJ
---- ANH and ROTJ have flipped many times, I think they're roughly equivalent ----
....
....
....
....
....
Rogue One
....
....
....
....
Revenge of the Sith
....
....
....
....
....
....
->the rest

Honestly.. the more times I see The Force Awakens the less I like it.. That's the opposite with ROTS and TPM, but the same as AotC. I think AotC had tremendous potential that was just ruined.

Having seen Rogue One and realizing what can be done with Star Wars on film; I wouldn't mind if they just redid the fucking prequels with the exact same story, just new direction - but my only fear is JJ Abrams getting anywhere near the fucking project. :chuckle:

Rogue One, to me, pretty much seals the deal on The Force Awakens AND the Prequels; both of which took a hit in my eyes yesterday - and you know I actually like the prequels and I originally liked TFA until I didn't. Now both have become less valuable to me, somehow..

I'm not saying the mainline stories should emulate Rogue One because the movie is really dark; but, Star Wars can be done well and without an abundance of commercialization or camp.

Will never happen, but I'd be onboard for remaking the prequel trilogy as well. I haven't seen them in a long time but I imagine they look like even worse ass next to the production of something like Rogue One. Like you said, they could keep the story exactly the same and I'd be cool with it.

I don't get the hate on Leia or Tarkin, to be honest. It was noticeable, but...I didn't give it a second thought until I heard legions of people were complaining about it.

Again, agree 100%... I was floored...

I was sitting next to my wife and she had no idea that wasn't a real actor until I told her dude died like 15 years ago (think it was actually 1994). When she saw Leia at the end, she was legit shocked! Like, she jumped in her seat, and so did I, it was jarring, but in an amazingly good way.

For the life of me I don't get it, but.. I think some folks just can't suspend disbelief when it comes to human CGI characters? Personally, given what we're watching; I think it's a great step forward for not only Star Wars, but film in general... particularly as we get older and these beloved actors age or pass away.

For me, Tarkin and Leia and Vader were worth the price of admission by themselves.

Yea.. they do look pretty bad.. The Phantom Menace, as odd as this sounds, holds up the best since it was filmed with real sets and props. AotC just looks terrible. It was a science experiment done on a blockbuster epic; which, while a success in pioneering the filming techniques, wasn't ready to be used on such a film that would need to stand up to the tests of time.

ROTS... it stands up well, but... ugh...

Besides, the acting in Rogue One shits on anything outside of the original trilogy...

It's... a bit of a joke this movie has a Metacritic score of 66... TFA still has an 81, and was in the mid 80s for months after release.

Find me one person that doesn't have a financial interest in the film-making industry or the media that covers it that doesn't think Rogue One is better than TFA.

I don't pay attention to most critic's reviews. Especially on something like Star Wars.

Took me my second viewing to realize that I liked it more than TFA, which I still like but has several critical flaws I can't forgive. I'm just more of a fan of the tone this film conveyed as well.

Really? I mean, maybe it's just me but I was totally blown away by it... I thought it was fantastic!
And maybe it's just me that thinks it was creepy. Maybe it's because I know Peter Cushing is dead. Maybe if it an actor that I had no clue what he looked like, I wouldn't have cared. But it bothered me a little.

I agree with @Hurl Bruce though, it doesn't make sense anymore.. It's very cool; but, it seems like a completely different context than what was presented in ANH. They, perhaps, should've added a minute to the movie extending this out so that Leia wasn't literally at the battle itself.
Be careful....they may release a new Special Edition where Vader says "I know you were at the battle of Scariff" to Leia

So.. Looking at Star Wars shit...

What's this about Finn "hearing the screams" on the Hosnian system proving he's Force sensitive? Apparently I miss that?

I'd also be completely on board to have them re-make the prequels. The dialogue is cringe worthy much of the time and the acting/direction is not much better. They're on TV right now and I think I've said "wow, this is terrible" to myself at least 5 or 6 times. The fandom deserves much better. The actual stories and lore are pretty solid.
