Round 4 - Pick 111 - Dawand Jones, OT, Ohio State

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I have no idea who this is, but 359? Oh Dov....

His last weigh-in was 375. He refused to weigh-in at his Pro Day, which likely means he didn't lose any weight. When he actually gets measured in the 350s, let me know.

Even if that NBA comment is true, which I don't doubt, I highly doubt that's the primary reason for his falling.

He's the third heaviest OL since 2000, teams expressed concerns about his weight, and instead of bringing that number down like a motivated individual would, it sounds like he's let it continue to balloon.

His weight is the primary driver behind his fall.

On the optimist side, he played at around this weight and looked good enough at Ohio State to get mocked in the first.

Let's hope the Browns got a steal.

When I picture Dawand playing basketball, I am reminded of that meme of the chunky kid throwing up shots like he's all that, way up over the backboard, hitting the support. Someone's got it...

He was well recruited by D1 mid-majors in high school. Know for sure he had an offer to play basketball at Kent State. Even when he committed to OSU, he alluded to the fact basketball was his first love but knew he had more of a future/opportunity playing football.

I mean, he declared for the NFL draft, not the NBA draft. I'd say that's a pretty good indicator or what his current priorities are. He's too heavy to play in the NBA anyway.
Let him play there too - he’ll lose weight!

No mention in above tweet about his Wonderlic score. Wasn’t he the guy with a really low one?

Score aside, it’s a good bet. Maybe he will fall in love a football at this level and in a dream scenario, maybe he loves having a personal chef and working out w Garrett and then we have a bookend monster for a decade. Maybe Callahan unlocks him as well.

Really interesting pick and this first year is critical. I think he’ll need some extra attention for some time, but man is that upside salivating.

My guess is he told teams he grew up wanting to be in the NBA and it turned into a game of telephone from there.

I remember Donovan Mitchell said he wanted to play baseball well into HS. Kyler Murray has been threatening to go to the MLB until he signed his extension last summer.

This would only be relevant if he had an actual opportunity to play in the NBA

He doesn’t and we got first round talent in the 4th. You don’t get first round talent in the 4th without some risks

What is the opposite of Magic?

If true, someone needs to teach this man how to properly lie in an interview :chuckle:

The idea of Dawand and Wypler, both likely first rounders next year had they stayed at OSU, being taught by Bill Callahan and in a room with vets like Bitonio, Conklin, and Teller is just music to my ears. “Redshirt” for one year, dominate on insanely cheap contracts in years 2-4 and then take over the salary slots of of the old guys in 2027.

I see both as these guys as almost surefire successes given the circumstances.

It’s not like Harris who was just so undersized for even C. Wypler has enough size for Center

And Dawand is not the typical HUGE guy with no movement skills. Yes the weight needs to be managed somewhat, but the footwork and movement will not be the project for Callahan that it is for most huge guys with no existing good footwork or movement skills

And both of these guys competed and often excelled against top notch competition

Just stoked to add both where/when we did

Edit: apparently I’m a little off in that Wypler isn’t that much bigger than Harris. But some pointed out that Harris actually lost weight as a pro, is two inches shorter and came into the league older than Wypler. Hopefully that makes a difference and hopefully Wypler raw skill set is just better than Harris’s
