Re: Sarus dead set on Cavs?
Miami did want to use their MLE to add another quality player. The Cavs could once again swoop in like in the Hughes scenario, make Haslem a big offer and steal another FA from a conference rival.
Miami is in a tough spot with trying to resign Haslem, Jones while also attempting to add a MLE player while being limited to what they can pay Haslem.
The Cavs could pay Z $8-8.5 million in year 1 of his new contract. That's different then paying $8 million a year through the life of the contract. There can be 10.5% raises each season in a contract when resigning your own players according to new CBA rules. The hkey for the Cavs is keeping that 1st year of Z's contract as low as possible.
