Shumpert trade ideas

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Essentially this is a swap of Shumpert/McRae for Ricky Rubio with Rubio going to the Kings and Rudy Gay coming to the Cavs.

Every team gets what they want (Kings a PG, Cavs a wing, Wolves rid themselves of Rubio and get Shump).

Trade seems to work?

@col63onel

Sacto would still have to waive someone.

I don't even think McRae is necessary in that deal, he could just be moved to the Wolves or another team with cap space, right?

The only reason I have him in the trade is so that the Cavs send out the necessary amount of salary within the confines of 3 teams... But in reality, couldn't just about any team take on McRae in that deal?

Correct...granted THAT team has an open roster spot.

Yeah, both teams would have zero interest in that trade.

Again with trading Kevin Love? Really?

"It's something where we're all pretty keenly aware that it would help take some burden off of Kyrie [Irving] and LeBron [James] as our primary playmaker, so if we could get somebody else that could do it ... and it really doesn't even have to be a point guard; it's just we need playmaking," Griffin said, speaking to reporters for the first time since the Korver trade. -ESPN

Interesting...

Interesting...

Looking more and more like Griffin, Lue and LeBron are all comfortable with our current wing depth. Not sure I like that...

In that trade, I'd love to have them toss us drunkard Lawson as well. With Rubio on the way and Collison looking to be extended by them this summer, it would make sense that they'd move him.

So this:

And we toss in Cedi to Sacto and a future pick to Minny for eating Birdman's salary for us.

I actually think that trade makes sense for all teams involved...not saying they would all do it if given the chance, but it certainly is easy to find the positives for every team.

Minny frees up a lot of time at the 1 for Dunn/Jones/LaVine, adds in a good wing defender which they don't have, and they get a pick for their troubles.

Sacto gets a better/more handsome Spanish version of Rondo who played well with those guys last season for a free agent who will most certainly walk, one of the better stashed prospects being held at the position they just traded away (and one who is coming over next season), and a flyer in McRae.

Cavs get the "playmaker" Griff is asking for, the PG LeBron is asking for, gets rid of Birdman's money, and frees up another roster spot.

Don't think it will happen...but it certainly isn't the craziest trade machine I've ever seen where one side is clearly getting fucked over.

Yea, I've been clamoring for a wing as well...

I think if we parse what Griffin is saying though, it is that while LeBron wants another point guard; what Griffin sees is that we need another "playmaker" whether or not that's a point guard is irrelevant. I think he's saying this, because like you and I are thinking, we really need another wing and a point player is a secondary (regular season) concern.

I think Griffin is thinking along the right lines here; Cavs need a wing who can handle the ball -- even if that doesn't translate to many assists, he's got to be able to create for himself and to some extent, create for others...

Agreed... This is a good way to flesh it out.

I think this is the kind of framework we could see a Gay trade develop as @jking948 said, using a third team to get everyone the pieces/parts they want.

Wolves don't want or need Rudy Gay.
Cavs could use Rubio, but we'd likely prefer Rudy Gay.
Sacramento can use a PG, and Rubio is cheap and under contract for years.

All three teams get exactly what they want.

And @col63onel gets what he wants by including a 4th team to take back a player into capspace so it makes sense under the cap.. :chuckle:

I'd do that trade for Gay too if he's thinking that.
