So long, Spencer Hawes (signs with Clippers for MLE)

It's the butterfly effect.

We don't trade for him we don't end up with the number one overall pick.

I wonder if he got nervous and decided to take a deal. LBJ holding the league hostage can't be too easy on all the free agents- once he makes his move there's going to be a frenzy, and you aren't going to want to be left out.

He helped our record. If he wasn't a rental getting us the 9th worst record, we wouldn't have won the lottery... I'd say the picks for he and Deng worked out perfectly...

This. Would it be great to have all those assets back? Sure. But who knows where we end up in the draft if we had not made those moves. I won't fret over what most likely turns out to be five second round picks in the end in moves that set us up to be lucky enough to land the #1 pick in this class. I'd rather be sitting here now without them, than sitting here with Dario Saric and five extra second rounders.

Was just thinking. If we do S&T him to the Clips - any chance we could include Jack in the deal? We could shed salary and LA could get a backup PG to replace Collison. And they'd still have their MLE for Pierce, correct?

You have to keep in mind that we would be taking back ~$9 million in that deal.

Best of luck to him. Some good open chances with Paul around.

Can't overlook this aspect of the trade. In retrospect we shouldn't have made the trade since Hawes isn't that good and didn't really help us all that much, but if we hadn't made the trade we wouldn't have Andrew Wiggins. Personally, I'd rather have Wiggins than those second-rounders, but that's just me.

It sounds like the Clips may try to work a sign & trade with the Cavaliers for Hawes, so they can preserve the MLE for Paup Pierce. Depending on what happens with LeBron, I'm not sure we'll have the cap room to take on any salaries in return.

It all depends on what happens with LJ. If we get LJ back then it makes no sense to make the trade as we lose cap room, unless we could easly spin off the assets to another team. If we do miss out on LJ, I think I do make the trade to get assets.

No sign-and trade (as expected)

No sign and trade means no paul pierce for the clippers. Unless he decides to come down on his demands I guess. I think he will take his largest offer though.
