Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Lucas always had great ideas.

He ran Clone Wars as the executive producer, but not directing or writing, and it was amazing.

He also ran the newest Indiana Jones film into the ground with his terrible ideas, so I'd say he's very hit or miss. He probably had minimal to do with Clone Wars aside from having his name attached to it.

To be honest, Lucas seems like a guy who had a few good ideas and a lot of awful ones. When he's not in absolute control, people have usually been there to check his worst impulses and keep the bad ideas out. The more control he has, the worse it seems the product ends up being. With Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, it seems that Spielberg wasn't nearly willing enough to tell George to fuck off when he tossed a terrible idea out.

I know this isn't a popular opinion, but I'm bummed as shit that Lord and Miller didn't get to turn Solo/Chewy into a hilarious buddy movie. With how much folks fell in love with a talking tree in GotG I think these two had the chops to make young, testosterone-filled Han/Chewy hijinks hysterical.

Who can give me a short refresher course on why Abrams is so bad?

Every movie he makes is a re-hash of another movie, just looks a little different. He'd make a great MCU director, because it's expected that every movie rehashed the previous ones.

Super 8 was basically a remake of ET. Now, it was competently made, and there hadn't been a movie like ET in a while, so even though it was a re-hash, I enjoyed.

Star Trek: Into Darkness was a re-hash of Wrath of Khan. Again, competently made. But Star Trek has so much creative potential, why just do the same movie with the same characters? Now, at least in Star Trek, you have so many movies and TV shows in canon, any story you do runs the risk of re-hashing an old plot. But a Star Trek movie shouldn't lack creativity.

Star Wars, though, has so many possible avenues to go. They wiped away 30 years of old extended universe canon to give the new run of movies free reign. And what did Abrams do? Remade the first Star Wars, only much worse.

It's a franchise screaming for someone with creativity. I get that they've gotten burned by Josh Trank, Lord and Miller, Colin Trevorrow and even Gareth Edwards a bit, all of whom were young and creative. I get that they want a more "established" director, which is why Ron Howard was brought it. But Abrams is just so lacking creatively. I can guarantee we're going to have a Jabba ripoff, an Endor ripoff, an Ewok ripoff and Snoke falling down an elevator shaft in Episode 9. Because Abrams refuses to write anything new.

It's over for me...

I literally fucking quit..... I QUIT!! YOU FUCKS!!

Disney...... motherfucking Disney...

I actually was one of the few people who was supportive of Disney buying the rights from Lucas... Really was letdown by the prequels (not like many others were though, I think that really came much later), and I had hoped Disney would bring in a new set of directors for a new trilogy that had been rumored for awhile.

Now... ugh.. now I realize everyone who said "nope, Disney is vile, don't trust them" .. now I realize they were right... They were riiiiight....

JJ Abrams .. after all of the negative feedback about TFA; after Hamill compared TFA to Transformers onstage; for Disney to just reinsert Abrams back in the drivers seat tells me Disney is more concerned about deadlines, and more concerned about cranking out Ep.9 on schedule, than they are about making a film that says something .. anything .. to it's audience.

So yeah... I'll go see Ep. 8, but not seeing it multiple times like I did Ep. 7.. Not really going out of my way.. Not going to stand in line for hours ... I'll see it when/if it's convenient, and then fucking bootleg it if necessary. If Ep.8 sucks, and .. I suspect it might .. then I may just give up on the franchise, just like I did with Star Trek... oh, btw, thanks for that too you FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!!!

I'm looking on the bright side - though the movies undoubtedly will suck, the rants from @gourimoko will be epic, and last a lot longer.

That's not entirely bad....
