The 2014 Cavs Off-Season Thread (not coaching-related)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Looks like Jordan Morgan was part of the workout today.

Maybe a summer league invite.. but probably nothing more.

If this is true, you can finally say goodbye to Alonzo Gee.

It's hard to believe not that we still have him, but that we have not found anyone better (two month rental aside). Let's hope that changes in a few weeks, and that we don't go for yet another tweener power forward so we can watch Gee do his stuff yet another year. [fingers crossed].

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--european-sharpshooter-damjan-rudez-gaining-interest-as-free-agent--202104908-nba.html

The shooting ability of European forward Damjan Rudez has generated an interest in him as a lower-cost, free-agent possibility, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Rudez, 27, has been working out for the Cleveland Cavaliers this week. Several front offices, including Indiana, Toronto and Utah, are taking close looks at him, sources said.

Rudez plays the coveted stretch-four man spot on the floor.

Rudez's production for CAI Zaragoza of the Spanish ACB has helped develop a growing level of value for him in the NBA. He shot 44 percent on 3-pointers in the ACB season, and 52 percent (28-for-54) in the 16-game Euro Cup.

A native of Croatia, Rudez went undrafted in the 2008 NBA draft, which makes him eligible to sign a free-agent deal

Looks like we aren't the only ones in pursuit

alot of info from joe today.

alot of info from joe today.

Just posted this In the Embiid thread as It for sure points to Embiid being the pick. Give me Parsons, Embiid and we got a top seeded team In the east for years to come.

Assuming for a moment that Kotoch has legitimate information, I wonder if that Heyward/Parsons thing is an either/or scenario or if he's implying we're pushing for both? Parsons seems like a serious reach because he's still on his rookie deal and Houston has to love his value. It's hard to imagine a deal for him, but I'm guessing maybe a S&T for Deng and we take some bad contracts back? Or maybe they'd want Tristan in some kind of dual S&T?

Tough one to put together. Heyward is obviously much easier to attain. Gauge his value and make him an offer. He's an UFA who would fit in very well, imo.

If we draft Embiid and get both? I'll be totally engorged.

Both Hayward and Parsons are going to be RFA's. All we have to do is put down an offer the Jazz or Rockets won't/can't match.

I hope Deng or Melo goes to the Rockets because we can grab Parsons easy.

Probably have a better shot at signing Hayward as opposed to Parsons. Hayward grew up in Indiana so it is possible that being closer to home could be appealing to him.

Wouldn't spend a lot on Hayward though.

Parsons is tricky because Houston wants to retain him. I'm not sure they'd just let him walk but they also would have zero interest in taking back salary in a trade.

Hayward I think you could get via S&T, especially if the Jazz end up taking Exum. Doubt they would let him walk, but there might be a price(close to max), where they prefer to let him go for players and picks.

If Kotoch has any real info(and he really threw sh*t against the wall last year) and the Cavs have one scenario where they sign both Hayward and Parsons to offer sheets, that would mean goodbye to Dion as he would most likely be moved to the Jazz in part of the Hayward deal. If we plan on signing just one if them, then it's workable for Dion to remain on the roster. Not sure how if feel about that.

In terms of overpaying for one or both if Parsons or Hayward, we have to be realistic about who would be willing to come to Cleveland and it's more likely to be young 3-4 year pros getting overplayed then players already in their prime, who are more fixated on larger markets and teaming up with other true superstars.

I don't think it would be that tricky...poison pill him like the Rockets did with the Asik and Lin contracts, depending on how things play it do it first day that is allowed

That would force the Rockets to move both of Asik and Lin within the 5 day window (iirc) they have to match to keep Parsons

To my knowledge, the poison pill is gone in the new CBA. I could totally be wrong though.

I think people are forgetting Kotoch isn't very reliable just because he's feeding *very* favorable information. Kotoch isn't reliable, at all. Take everything he says with a huge grain of salt.

I'd LOVE to get Gordon Hayward! He's the kind of kid we need on this team- midwesterner (grew up in Indianapolis), attended Butler, doesn't care about partying or the limelight. He's the kind of free agent who would consider signing with Cleveland 'cause it gets him closer to home.

Of course, getting another team not to match an offer sheet usually means one of two things- overpaying and/or crafting a sign & trade. Fortunately, we have the pieces to work a s&t for Hayward using Luol Deng, Spencer Hawes, both of whom are free agents, and/or the non-guaranteed contracts of Anderson Varejao or Scotty Hopson. I'd think that something could be put together.

I'm dreaming of this lineup:

PG- Irving
SG- Waiters
SF- Hayward
PF- Thompson or Bennett
C- Embiid

C.J. or Darius?

I do agree on Hayward being the type of player who might be willing to sign here though. Midwest kid, close to home, etc.
