The General Terrorist Rampage Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Tragic.

Not trying to politicize a tragedy, but it's sobering to realize that you are much more likely to be killed by a white male terrorist in the US, but here we have people in office spend so much political capital trying to ban refugees. Heart goes out to the victims, and I hope at some point we can have a rational conversation about guns in this country. The NRA and the for-profit gun lobby can't fool us forever with their "guns don't kill people" crap. They consider events like this collateral damage to their profiteering and us Americans have just about had enough. They want a dollar, we just want to enjoy our music festival in peace.

Awful news day. Prayers to the victims. So tired of waking up to stories like this.

For the benefit of the ignorant, I'm going to point out that these fully-automatic weapons were almost certainly possessed illegally.

Laws didn't stop him.

I heard the audio while driving and didn't quite understand the logistics of the event. Now that I can sit in front of a tv, it's even worse than I imagined. Those poor people had nowhere to go. He was just spraying down on people who had no place to take cover. Damn...

I don't want to see anymore video...and I imagine worse ones will come out once people settle into somewhere safe, plus all of the hotel video. I don't want to be numb to this.

Oh, and how can these people keep taking video while this is happening? Get the fuck out of there.

In another thread, some teachers talked about the ALICE program which is plan intended to help minimize casualties in a mass shooter situation. While it's hard to implement at a concert setting, it certainly is possible to implement in non school settings, such as an office building. Now might be a good time to ask your boss if they have a plan in place for a mass shooting incident. If they don't. I'd recommend ALICE.

We have a program in place. Half of the workers are carrying.

I may be mistaken, but guy on the radio stated that NV has minimal barriers to obtaining a gun.

It's a class 3 state. You can legally own a fully automatic weapon as long as you follow the NFA rules.

Automatic firearms are allowed in Nevada as long as they were manufactured prior to May 18th, 1986 and Nevada has some of the weakest gun control laws when it comes to automatic firearms.

ATF background check and then needs approved by a local sheriff from a licensed Cat 3 dealer. The only way, after purchase, to carry across state lines is to get permission. Since he was in Nevada he didn't have to get permission to transport his firearms.

Hell you have fully automatic gun ranges in vegas.

I am going to err on the side of caution and say they were purchased legally from a cat 3 dealer. Or they were purchased from a private sale where the FFL checks aren't necessarily needed.

Yeah, not a "left/right" comment, but instead a "ok, something is clearly wrong and we need to come together and find a solution". I'm not advocating a right or left stance, just a "hey, let's get this fixed" stance. Though, it's hard for anyone to read that in today's ultra partisan world.

I think we can all agree that mass murder terrorist shootings need to stop.

That's politicizing and there's no real way out of it. It's whatever, just own it.

Hooker gf that warned everyone was released. Why didn't she go to the police? Why was she drug out of the concert instead of taking her seriously? Why is this being buried?

When they say a gun was obtained by a private sale, does that mean that one guy who has a gun just sells it to someone else? Like a craigslist type person to person sale?

I may be mistaken, but guy on the radio stated that NV has minimal barriers to obtaining a gun.

It might, but fully-automatic weapons are federally regulated. If he acquired these legally as semi-automatic, and then modified them to fire automatically, that is illegal to do, and illegal to possess under federal law.

They cannot be legally acquired or owned in any state unless you go through a specific permitting process, which requires a bunch of approvals, including by (among others) local LEO. It's really unlikely that anyone other than an FFL dealer is going to be given multiple authorizations - this guy had at least 8 fully autos, apparently.

So I think it is very likely that he was not in legal possession of all of them. It's possible, but I think very unlikely. If he was, I imagine ATF would be publicizing that pretty quickly.
