The General Terrorist Rampage Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
"but it's sobering to realize that you are much more likely to be killed by a white male terrorist in the US, but here we have people in office spend so much political capital trying to ban refugees."

That's politicizing and there's no real way out of it. It's whatever, just own it.

Sure, it's hard not to read it that way, but it's more starting a conversation. How do we stop white male terrorists from committing these attacks?

A) Ban white males? Obviously not, this is racist and impractical.

B) Harsher gun laws? Hard to do with the gun lobby. Sure, some very responsible gun owners will have to sacrifice, but maybe that is worth it?

C) Expanded Health Care and mental health screenings. Maybe Universal Health Care is the answer?

D) ???

I am spit balling here. But the larger point I was trying to make is how can we stop these mass shootings which, not trying to be racist, are usually carried out by white males. (Roof, Lanza, Holmes, this guy). Focusing the attention on refugees who have never committed a terror attack in our nations history seems to be misguided use of resources.

Trying to have a constructive conversation. Because something needs to be done.

If you're concerned with gun violence and stopping "white male terrorists" then why include the bit about refugees? It's a totally different topic than gun violence.

Politicians haven't even been focused on refugees lately. They've been busy with a number of other issues.

It might, but fully-automatic weapons are federally regulated. If he acquired these legally as semi-automatic, and then modified them to fire automatically, that is illegal to do, and illegal to possess under federal law.

In the state of Nevada to get an automatic weapon you need to complete the ATF background check (for each one) and have a Sheriff approve of the sale. That is it. The guns are regulated as they cannot be manufactured after May 19th 1986.

So you can go to Nevada (if you live there) buy a Thompson sub machine gun fully auto, from a Cat 3 dealer. Fill out the ATF paperwork and have your buddy the Sheriff approve of the sale (usually takes about 4 months) then poof you have a fully auto Tommy gun.

As long as you aren't a nut job and can pass all the required checks they are legal to own, contingent they are made before may of 1986.

Because the current administration seems more worried about them.

Thinking about this more....the Beltway shooter, the Dallas shooter, the Orlando shooter....

Maybe this is a "male" thing and not a "white male" thing.

I'm starting to think that this is a mental health issue and maybe we should start there. Expanded coverage or even Universal Health Care may go a long way to stopping things like this.

That's not a political comment, it is a medical comment.

You aren't going to stop them. This isn't a fairy tale world. You could ban all firearms and won't stop them. Some people are just crazy as fuck. How can you minimize them?

1. No more gun free zones. I'm sure the people at this concert weren't allowed to carry. If a shooter knows they won't get too far before being gunned down, they might try to think of a better way to show their displeasure.

2. Fix the economy, or I should say, let the economy fix itself rather than getting in it's way. People that are more prosperous are less likely to want to go kill someone.

3. Leave people alone. People that haven't been violated in some way by those in power are less likely to want retribution.

Right. But a local sheriff approving 8 automatic weapon purchases, and nothing has come out about this guy being affiliated with any shooting clubs. Plus, the cost of buying that many pre-86, in a short "he just snapped" period....

I'm still thinking they're mostly illegal.

None of those three shooters carried out their attacks because of mental health issues. They had clear motives. We don't know much about this shooter or why he carried out his attack.

Sure, mental health coverage would help in some instances but it wouldn't have helped in the three shootings you mentioned, and maybe not in this one either.

People have always been like this. The problem now is that the technology to act on their evil beliefs. Changing gun laws isn't going to help either. If someone is deranged enough to carry out an attack like this they're going to find a way.

More mental health services and access through universal health care?

Anyone who will commit a mass terror attack has mental health issues.

I will make 1 comment about this and then that is it. There are 1.8 Billion Muslims in the world. Roughly 25% are radicalized. That is 450M Muslims in the world are radical. The entire population of the US is 361M. The peaceful ones don't matter when you are looking at the number of radical Muslims is greater than the entire population of the US.

That is all I am going to say on the refugee issue.

Now I doubt this was a mental health issue. Too much planning involved. He left his home about 1 hour away with 8 or more guns and then traveled to the Hotel directly across from the concert. He was there since thursday and, according to some reports that Q posted, had cameras to see when police were getting near him.

This is not the acts of a person with mental health issues. This is a person that has been planning something for months, weeks or even years.

WE don't know his motives. We don't know if he was Conservative or Liberal (like the attack on the senators' playing baseball earlier in the year).

There will be speculation and rumors. I wonder if he left any of his intentions in his house that may provide more information.

I am thinking it isn't a short "he just snapped" period. Doesn't add up. This type of activity especially if the reports you heard about the cameras and wanting to know when the police are near is true doesn't scream of a he just snapped.

This screams more of a planned event that may have been in the plan for Months if not years.

Even if we were to accept that premise, you can only help people who want to be helped. All the mental health services in the world aren't going to stop people from carrying out attacks if they don't want help.

25% of worldwide muslims are not radicalized. Time to log off of Breitbart homie.

True, but perhaps at their annual checkup they will talk it out, or show signs that their primary care physician notices and recommends they talk to someone.

Whatever we are doing today isn't working. Maybe Universal Health Care is the answer? Heck, after today I'll try anything. Why wouldn't we?

Months, certainly. Years only if he didn't have help.

What's interesting about the multiple guns is normally, you'd think he'd just bring a bunch of magazines for one gun. But firing that many rounds that quickly would overheat the barrels, so that's why he brought all those guns. But it's weird and very cumbersome.

Maybe he really did horde these guns legally over long period of time - he was in his 60's - and so just had them already when he decided to do this. I just know a lot of gun people, and I don't know anyone with that many fully-automatic weapons.
