I drove up to Black Rock Mountain state park in Georgia close to Tennessee for the '17 eclipse. Great scenic views normally. On a clear day you can see Georgia, Tennessee, North and South Carolina from the peak. Amazing with the eclipse added. Roads and freeways were packed everywhere like after a shuttle launch.

If it looks like the weather holds and I can get on a plane in the morning I will fly up for the eclipse and home opener and fly back to Florida at night.

You should change your screen name to southernflyer or something.

This is what it looked like for me that day

We weren't in the full eclipse path, but I spent about an hour driving with my daughter to find a spot we could see through the clouds for the partial eclipse. This time we're in the full eclipse path and the current forecast is 50-60% clouds where we live.

Prior to that I was in the path of a full eclipse in the 70s, my father didn't let me see it because he didn't want me to hurt my eyes, so I saw the inside of a mall away from windows while he went out to see it.

WHat's everyone's plans? Where I live the projection is 63% cloule cover. I could drive an hour to cut that to 55%. I'm not sure it I'd be able to park anywhere when I got there.

I'm sitting my ass down right here in lovely Parma, OH, putting on my NASA approved glasses and staring up at that fucking thing whether I can see it or not. If it ends up being cloud cover, I will just tell my kids it's a Cleveland life lesson and just reason for why we grow up expecting to be disappointed. Then I go get them ice cream, because that's how we cope.

Sun and 70 today. I am about 240 miles from the path of totality. Will break from work and enjoy.

We’re west of Cleveland, so hopefully the clouds will break. Still very overcast as of now (9:15 AM). Fingers crossed. Bit late in the game to hoof it to the clear skies in northern Maine (and who would have had northern Maine as the place to view this eclipse on their bingo card?).

Up in Sandusky. Drive to work was awesome. Empty roads the whole way. Hotels on the way had full parking lots with some lawn chairs already set up. But the porta potties all around town seem like a bit much at this point...

Depending on cloud cover, I'll be watching with my daughter in the backyard or at a park in nearby Aurora
