Trade Deadline // 2023

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Would anyone be interested in a 28yo RH plus CF who has a slash of 271/366/435, wRc+ of 118 (on a normal 299 BABIP), 14/17 BB/K ratio in 101 PA vs LHP this season?

The perfect fit to this roster....

Which guy would that be?

Somehow he has 6 OAA in CF so far in the bigs but only 1 OAA in LF in about the same innings. Seems like a bit of noise but also capable of playing all 3 positions.

There's no space on an MLB roster for a dedicated RH platoon bat anymore. They've gone the route of the PH specialist, the pinch-runner, the loogy, the dodo, and... the 3rd string catcher.

He's someone who's decidedly not a plus defender in CF.

He's someone whose total slash line on the year is .214/.306/.323 .629 and spent a little time down in the minors.

You know what we say to that?

Career in 425 PA, his overall slash is 221/315/350 on a well below avg BABIP of 254, still good for a 87 wRc+ and 1.3 fWAR thanks to good defense. Steamer projects 98 wRc+, 721 OPS rest of the season

Wouldn't mind that hitting 9th over Straw every day and exactly the player we're now looking for without trading the farm. I doubt CLEFO eats their ego on that fumble and I doubt we can pick up that sort of bat on the waivers like Bimbo proclaimed

....it's definitely a better fit than Viloria was to start the year and better than stashing a couple of your MIF prospects to the bench and play them out of position

Rosario? He's a net negative both offensively and defensively. What contender wants him?
Well, we did and see what happened??? :chuckle: Maybe better question to ask is which team wants to tank by playing him????

If we assume Rocchio is the SS of the future, how about Bell and Freeman for a top outfield prospect? Freeman can play third, second, or short and looks like a future .300 hitter (he's at .301 now playing sporadically).
Think Freeman could be a nice bench piece for them but to say that their OF is blocked is kind of the same reason their IF is blocked (Machado, Bogaerts, Kim and Cronenworth are all long-term pieces. With Tatis in OF and Merrill in AA (and Rosario is probably their utility guy/depth piece when he recovers from fractured ankle - on rehab now), so would they want pitching more than Freeman for an OF??? Which of course if they want, they could scout them at the Cleveland Clinic for now.:chuckle:

Are we talking about Alex “Myles Straw” Call still in 2023?

Exactly because your boy Arias sucked the living crap vs LHP this year, it is highly relevant we talk about it for this season.

You can double down on making fun of it, but Arias, Brennan and Straw all suck vs LHP and it's been a season long problem.

Call offers exactly the profile this 26 roster desperately needs, basically Amed Rosario with good defense and used properly as platoon bat/PH/PR, late inning defense.

And if Call gives you M. Straw production, what does that tell us about the contract extension? So either Call has value or Straw is a DFA worthy player no one should talk about...

I’m dedicating no more time talking about Alex Call man.

You can stay on that, but Alex Call’s are plucked off the bargain bin every year.

You keep saying that, but we keep missing one every damn season. So is this either a FO blind spot or there aren't as many as you claim.

You won't convince me or many others here that we don't need a capable RH OF platoon bat, Guardians twitter/Internet is full of trade hypotheticals looking for exactly that kind of profile

We aren't looking for straight platoon bats right now.

Not a preference. Time will come for the next Raburn, Davis, Luplow, Guyer, or Jackson of the world, but its not right now. Bigger issues to solve.

I certainly agree with "bigger issues to solve"! The question remains, WHEN THE HELL ARE WE GONNA SOLVE THEM?

Bigger issues take longer to solve.

Good thing some of you guys don't run teams yourselves, lack of patience would have probably gotten you fired very quickly.

But I'm not going to sit here and lament over a straight platoon OF bat that we got rid of when a guy like Kevin Pillar is getting year-to-year minor league deals every winter. Shows you how valuable an above average RH bat that can handle LHP but can't do much of anything else is leaguewide.
