Trade Discussions - Pistons/Wolves/Cavs

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

WFNYScott Scott @ WFNY
Source close to WFNY places considerable doubt on reported #Cavs rumors.

WFNYScott Scott @ WFNY
Says Pistons would demand more, #Cavs not valuing Williams enough to burn picks; would rather pick 1, 4 and 8.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

I'm sure Tom Izzo would love to coach Kyrie and D-Will..

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

Who to trust? Unreliable sources of broussard or the unreliable sources of WFNY? I'm not sold on the truth of this rumor but def see it as something cavs would discuss.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

I'd be surprised if Det did this now. There's definitely going to be some sort of amnesty clause, similar to the one after the last strike.

If we did acquire the 8th, I think I'd prefer using the 1st and 4th then spinning off the 8th for someone's 2012. But, that's me...
Yeah, but what you're forgetting is that Rip isn't DET's only bad contract. They also have Gordon (owed $11.6M, $12.4M, $13.2M) and CV (owed $7.5M, $8M, $8.5M). I also don't think the 8th would get that great of a pick next year. This draft = weak, that draft = strong. Maybe it'd get a late late lottery pick or something but meh.

Also, I remember someone on this forum suggesting a similar trade a few days/weeks ago so props to them (whomever it was)!

I don't think it'll actually happen though but still...interesting. I wouldn't be opposed to just keeping #4 and #8 either.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

When the Cavs had #6, it was close to impossible to attract an All Star talent. Pulling off this trade ensures the Cavs grab two young potential All Stars with limited chance at washing out. I like Kanter and Jonas V. A lot, but they have a lower basement than DWill. The #8 pick in this draft will likely nab a role player, which the Cavs can grab in free agency somewhere down the line.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

why Detroit might do it
- Rip has 2 years left on his contract
- their payroll is already down to $48 million for next year, they may view clearing another $12.6 million in payroll for free agency as more valuable than the #8 pick.
- the last time there was an amnesty clause, it just helped a team avoid luxury tax, it didn't help them clear any cap space. Even if it's done differently this time around, they could use the amnesty clause on their overpaid Ben Gordon.

Also, I don't see us having to send anything more than the trade exception. We're basically spending $25 million for the #8 pick. How could they ask for more than that? And remember, they already agreed to the trade once, Rip Hamilton was the hold up. Perhaps he changed his mind, or perhaps we no longer care if he wants to come here or not. I'm fairly certain he doesn't have a not trade clause.

I know the whole "I know a guy who said..." logic isn't usually believeable, but...

Rip Hamilton's father goes to the same gym I do, and we've spoken a handful of times. According to him, Rip has a few problems with the Cleveland deal. First and foremost, he does not trust Dan Gilbert after the the Decision and Gilbert's letter and thinks he might not get the buyout as promised and will be forced to stay in Cleveland, which he dreads. His agent is Leon Rose, a name we should all recognize as having attachment to LBJ. Rose experienced Gilbert on Lebron and has relayed the message to Rip. Second, he cares about his money more than anything, so he wouldn't take a buyout that reduces his pay by much over the next two years. Combine these two, and coming to Cleveland risks him either losing money or being stuck in Cleveland if things don't go as promised (get a nearly full buyout).

While he doesn't have a no trade clause, he could cause some real headaches I'd think if he doesn't want this. His father went so far as to say that the reason he didn't do the buyout this past year and sign with a contender was that he valued the millions in guaranteed money infinitely more than another shot at a championship.

I'd ratherhave 1,4,8 too....

Kyrie, Kanter, Singleton....BOOM.

I have heard several interviews with Kahn and he has repeatedly said that he wants to add some vets to the team. Minny has a lot of $4million dollar-ish contracts though, so they would have to shift quite a few players to make room for say Ben Gordon, who would be great for them as they have no shooting guards.

I am super excited about the possibility of getting the Irving/Williams. I think that that combo along with some of the left over pieces would be a tempting team for free agents to consider... Say we build something with all this youth and, after we get Jamison off the books, we are sitting on enough cash for a Max Contract. How good would this team look to Dwight Howard? Good enough to at least think about it I bet.

Fuck you Rip.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

Irving and Williams in 2011
Rivers or Davis in 2012

Damn. Get it done Grant.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

Hamilton is 33 years old, that's an obvious reason to buy him out

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

Part 2 of Broussard's three part tweet was retweeted 100+ times. That tweet on its own sounds like its a done deal. Obviously when you read all three tweets you see its just a proposal. Thanks Broussard.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

Am I the only one that is apprehensive about Williams?. By all accounts his measurements are = to a player like Boozer. I know he WANTS to play SF but that doesn't mean he can. I'm not totally put off by the idea but I just think things get weird if he ends up being a PF, do you trade hickson?

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting (Trade Discussions - Pistons/Wolves/Cavs)

I would like the deal if D Will could play SF. I would like to keep JJ around. And that would fill our hole at SF
