Trade Discussions - Pistons/Wolves/Cavs

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

I know the whole "I know a guy who said..." logic isn't usually believeable, but...

Rip Hamilton's father goes to the same gym I do, and we've spoken a handful of times. According to him, Rip has a few problems with the Cleveland deal. First and foremost, he does not trust Dan Gilbert after the the Decision and Gilbert's letter and thinks he might not get the buyout as promised and will be forced to stay in Cleveland, which he dreads. His agent is Leon Rose, a name we should all recognize as having attachment to LBJ. Rose experienced Gilbert on Lebron and has relayed the message to Rip. Second, he cares about his money more than anything, so he wouldn't take a buyout that reduces his pay by much over the next two years. Combine these two, and coming to Cleveland risks him either losing money or being stuck in Cleveland if things don't go as promised (get a nearly full buyout).

While he doesn't have a no trade clause, he could cause some real headaches I'd think if he doesn't want this. His father went so far as to say that the reason he didn't do the buyout this past year and sign with a contender was that he valued the millions in guaranteed money infinitely more than another shot at a championship.

there's absolutely NOTHING Rip can do here (without a no trade clause). Detroit can deal him to any team whether he likes it or not and if he doesn't accept the buy out Dan Gilbert offers than he can rot on the bench here for 2 years. that being said i think they would talk to Rip before that deal happens to check what kind of money he would want etc...

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

Am I the only one that is apprehensive about Williams?. By all accounts his measurements are = to a player like Boozer. I know he WANTS to play SF but that doesn't mean he can. I'm not totally put off by the idea but I just think things get weird if he ends up being a PF, do you trade hickson?

No, you're not. But he is a helluva lot quicker than Boozer. More Athletic. Better shooter. Defensive intensity.. So yeah.. I see the comparison.

The rumor was 15-18 at the deadline right?

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

I think all this dazzling trade speculation is fun and all, but the real draft is next year's. This draft is watered down exponentially by comparison. I'd rather see the trade exception dealt for a first next year.

This time, two in the bush is just better.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting (Trade Discussions - Pistons/Wolves/Cavs)

I wonder if Minny would send the #20 pick to Detroit and maybe we send a second rounder? That's a lot of moving draft picks though.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

I have heard several interviews with Kahn and he has repeatedly said that he wants to add some vets to the team. Minny has a lot of $4million dollar-ish contracts though, so they would have to shift quite a few players to make room for say Ben Gordon, who would be great for them as they have no shooting guards.
I'm not really sure MIN would be interested. That's a lot of money to take on for someone coming off a down year.

What I'd maybe try is to include AV to MIN and the Cavs keep #8. Then they draft Irving, Williams and...Burks? Maybe hope Jonas falls?

I think he's closer to Beasley without the stupid than he is to Boozer.

He has been pretty adamant about playing the 3, so I guess Hickson will be held on to for the time being. I wouldn't be opposed to trading him though.

Reports are that the snag on the deal Cleveand and Detroit had last February was Hamilton not agreeing to a buy out.

I don't like that players don't trust Gilbert now because of the decision letter. That is somewhat worrisome.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting

Many of you must have forgotten last July if you give any credence to Broussards word.

Wasn't Broussard the first to report #6 going to Miami?

EDIT: Yep, he was

i think the rumored number was closer to 20 and if you consider what Rip could get from the next team that signs him (Chicago with the MLE for example) he probably wouldn't even lose any money longterm

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting (Trade Discussions - Pistons/Wolves/Cavs)

Recent stories have stated that the Wolves were trying to move 1-2 spots back and draft kanter there.

I am not shocked that this story broke, I just hope that it is true.

I think it's because team Lebron has Rip's ear.. I don't know if a lot of players feel that way about Gilbert. Hell, Baron must love Gilbert by comparison to Sterling.. Maybe players like Mo tweeting that he loves Dan after he was traded will help maintain a good image amongst the players.

I think that is the biggest deal here. If you have agents like Leon Rose spreading this message around, players' views are tainted before they'd even meet with the Cavs about a possible deal.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting (Trade Discussions - Pistons/Wolves/Cavs)

Dumb trade. Kanter or Williams will probably be there at 4 anyways.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting (Trade Discussions - Pistons/Wolves/Cavs)

I like this deal if they can pull it. IF minny doesn't bite I wonder if Detroit would be interested in a swap for next years number 1 instead?

I don't buy that Rip didn't want to do the deal because of Gilbert. He'd just be getting a buyout from the Cavs and not playing for Gilbert. It would make more sense for him to get bought out of his current contract and go to a contender. He'd make more money too.

Re: Chris Broussard Reporting (Trade Discussions - Pistons/Wolves/Cavs)

I have my reservations about D-Will, but I think him and Irving have been the two elite talents from the start..they are just on another level in this weak draft. I'd take the opportunity to pair those two together. I could see Williams as a combo forward on this team so I don't think this would necessarily spell the end for Hickson.

That said, I think the pot would need to be sweetened from Detroit's perspective and I'd like to see if we can get more for #4, #8, and taking on Rip.
