Even if we sign Lance and he plays well, I still don't want to give up Shumpert unless we're getting another decent sized guard. Our guard rotation is thin in terms of competency without JR in the mix. Currently we're asking RJ to play the 2-4 and our two real guards are Shump and Korver. As good of a run as Liggins had, we cannot expect him to produce every game. And he makes too many mental errors when he is expected to play well. Also his shot is garbage. With Stephenson, the 2-3 is fairly well covered because we can have sg: Korver/Shump/Stephenson and sf: LeBron/Stephenson/Shump which allows LBJ to play less minutes and Korver to stick to the shooting guard spot. JR is not going to be right this season. He hasn't even been cleared for cardio for his thumb injury. So we need that 4 man rotation.
The other problem we didn't get ahead of is the 4-5 spot. We're expecting JJ to put up minutes if Love is out... That's just insane. He's gone from victory cigar to key contributor because we don't have enough bigs.
As it stands, if we give up a wing player and a center to get back a point guard and a center, we're just creating a different problem because we will still have no depth for bigs and we'll just require an additional SG/SF. And at the same time, we'll have to integrate 4 new players into the system while losing two guys who were key contributors in Shump and Frye. I say 4 because I consider Korver's integration still in progress.
I'm not sure how much sense the trades make. Especially with Shump's current value so high trading for a couple of guys who will likely retire or get injured sooner rather than later.
