Trading Tristan?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So who is the post up player that can get easy buckets on the Cavs? How does Tristan do against the likes of Duncan/Nowitzki/LeBron(Bosh)/Pau/KG that he would face in the playoffs? Two of those 5 players you named are at their best when they are near the basket so they are able to get blocks when defending in Duncan, Pau, and KG. Now with Tristan you are effectively keeping them near the basket for when Irving/Waiters drive in for them to get swatted. With Love you make those 3 guys have to leave the paint and move towards the perimeter. Also Duncan and KG play big minutes at center for their respective teams as well, just saying. So what Love does is give us a player that let's us get our easy baskets down low by letting our two best slashers have a clear path to the basket.

So let's say we add in the value of Tristan huge strides to be a 15/10 player to end the year and a good defender, we slightly downgrade Love for his larger contract, coming off an injury, and issue with the team currently, he's still going to cost more than just Tristan, and rightfully so. So let's say the trade ends up becoming Tristan, Sacramento's 1st, and Mephis' 1st. You might think it's a lot but it's two future 1st and truthfully we can't draft all these players and expect to keep/pay/play them. The reason you acquire assets is to use them to make blockbuster trades. So we get to keep all our picks this year, which if you all want to talk about building a young team, which Love is still young at only 24, we can still do that. Let's make some more trades.

#3-5. Otto Porter, SF Georgetown
Trade #19, both 2nds, our 2014 1st, top 10 protected for a pick #7-9.
7-9. Alex Len, C Maryland

Love takes a bit of money but also takes some money off with the Tristan trade. We use the extra money to bring in some old faces that know the system. I think Shaun Livingstaun is going to want a bigger payday than we will want to give him as he was a good depth guy but not worth big minutes. How about Mo Williams instead? Has experience with Mike Brown, can play minutes at both the PG and SG positions, good 3 pt shooter, a little undersized and underwhelming defense, but not any worse than Livingstaun. Then for big man depth, the obvious candidate is Greg Oden as he'll come cheap. We keep Ellington.

PG-Kyrie Irving/Mo Williams
SG-Dion Waiters/Wayne Ellington
SF-Otto Porter/Alonzo Gee
PF-Kevin Love/Anderson Varejao
C-Alex Len/Greg Oden/Tyler Zeller

Looks like a pretty damn good line-up to me. Also although Len isn't a great scorer in the post right now, he fits with Irving/Waiters and Oden was very good offensively in the post both offensively and defensively when healthy.

So i am confused about you plan here. i dont want to mix you up with what others have said. The opposition I have to a trade for Love is based on what seems to be a consensus that it will take TT, This years Cavs first, and a future first to get Love. I cant argue this is not reasonable, since we have seen similar packages for genuine star players. i am also not arguing that Love is not a star player...

However what you suggest above is that we are trading TT straight up for Klove, because in your scenario, we get him, keep AV and still pick up Porter and Len this year. If you can trade TT straight up for Klove, then of course you do it, I am not opposed. But if you have to give up our own first this year and a future first, then I dont think there is enough additive to having K Love vs Jefferson to justify the move.

I am not in love with Al Jeff. You might sub Dwight Howard, or maybe Pekovic in that spot. But my point stands in that if we can get a proven center in free agency, without giving up the draft assets, we should do that. I think an offensively skilled wide body big in the paint, next to TT, and with AV and Zeller off the bench, will make a big difference with this team. I will point to that brief stretch of Games, when Mo Speights thought he was auditioning for a trade to a contender, where we picked up some good wins. I think it changes the dynamics of the game for us.

I guess the problem people are taking aim at, is this perception that because Tristan does not possess a long ball, he clogs tha lane for our slashing guards. So the idea is that somehow the other big needs a Nowitzki class outside game to compensate for this weakness, OR we need to exchange TT for a power forward that has the long range in him. This would be the same argument to prefer Derrick Williams over TT in the first place. Jefferson scores 71 percent of the time on a jumper. So While he is not knocking down threes, he still requires close attention when he leaves the paint.

I feel like I'm reading the thread about trading JJ for Stat. Take off the rose colored glasses. Love for TT and extras? Yes please!

It's slightly different. In the Amare trade we were giving up expiring old Ben, JJ and the 30th pick. In this case it's a legit double double 2nd year player with all defensive team potential, a top 5 pick, an injury prone 12/12 player who would be an all star, and 2nd team all defensive. JJ was not nearly as valuable as any of those assets, and Amare didn't miss 60 games the year(s) we wanted him.
