Troy Murphy = Perfect fit

Murphy helps the core of the team more than Jamison. Jamison is a terrible defender and average shooter. I like Jamison, but he is not as slam dunk as many think, meanwhile, Murphy would add yet another player over 40% 3 point shooting and is on the correct side of 30...plus Murphy is twice the rebounder that Jamison is and can play center.

Murphy is a better defensive rebounder. Jamison is a better offensive rebounder. I'd argue that we could use the offensive rebounding more.

This year Jamison is shooting the three at a .376 clip, Murphy at a .381....minimal difference if any and Murphy gets much better looks.

As for playing C, Murphy playing C is a bad idea when you have Shaq and Varejao and possibly Z available to play that position and all of them do it better than Murphy.

agreed about murphy at center, just thinking after this season. Ferry has proven that he wont just go for bust on a trade and think of this season only. I agree with that concept. I would love to get a longer term peice than Jamison if possible for Z's expiring. If there ever was a season to do it, now is the time. The lakers gave up alot for gasal (2 first rounds, an expiring, and a possible all star center in marc)...but look how that worked out, jamison is 7 years older than pau when he was traded. It matters.

This is true for 2009-2010, but we also have to look down the road a little bit. One of the things I think Ferry has to look at is could Murphy be the Center next year? Or the year after (if we re-signed him him). Does he add some of the comparable elements that Z has provided at the Center position (good outside shooter, pick and pop, rebounding), which has proven to be effective with players like Mo and LeBron?

In other words, if Shaq and Z are not around past this year (not saying they will or won't be), can we plug Murphy into Z's role and not lose too much? Going forward, does Murphy's game complement not only Bron and Mo, but also a guy like AV?

I'd feel better about Jamison and Varejao at the 4/5 than Varejao at the 4 and Murphy at the 5 going forward.

The NBA's Feb. 18 trade deadline is less than three weeks away and the Indiana Pacers are actively working the phones trying to salvage a disappointing season.

The player that most likely could be moved before the deadline is forward Troy Murphy.

Murphy is one of several players who have been linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"It's a business and I understand there's a possibility that I could be moved," Murphy said. "I can't get away from the ongoing rumors because Travis (Diener) is right next to me (in the locker room) and he is always informing me of what's being talked about."

I think the next line in that Indy Star article is interesting:

A possible snag in moving Murphy is the uncertain return dates of rookie Tyler Hansbrough and Jeff Foster.

To my mind, this makes it more likely Indy tries to trade Murphy...Jeff Foster had been linked to some teams looking for a big, especially Denver and maybe Portland. His salary is considerably smaller than Murphy's and so is easier to move. If Indy were able to trade Foster for expirings, that would clear $6.6m off the books for next year, get Indy well out of the luxury tax for 2011, and give them some financial flexibility going into next year. If they make no moves, they are a borderline tax team and would be in a financial straight jacket.

Plus, as we saw, they can always play small with Dahntay Jones and Granger at the forward spots. Hansbrough will be back by late February or March. I mean, what difference does it make to them whether they win 25 games or 28 games?

I bet a lot of players are praying to get out of their situations and come to the Cavs; Iggy, Jamison or Murphy. What a luxury. Go from shit to championship contender.

I'd really like to see the Cavs somehow acquire Murphy if they indeed are able to get Iggy...

I think Murphy is always going to be there and will likely be a fallback option should things break down with Philly, Phoenix and/or Washington...

Murphy would be a nice fit here, I do like him he's just not the top target for obvious reasons... To me, he'd be the Anthony Parker of the PF spot: play smart, play hard, hit shots, not make too many mistakes and play efficiently....

A couple reasons why I like Murphy better than Jamison is because he's bigger defensively to matchup with Garnett and Gasol, is younger, is a better rebounder and is much more efficient...

He wouldn't be a bad consolation prize by any stretch of the imagination..

Just think about Murphy getting open looks against the Clippers right now :chuckles:

I don't think the Cavs can get Troy Murphy.
Pacers will need a big in return.
We are not trading JJ.
Only way we trade Z is if he comes back via a buyout.

From the Indianapolis Star (blog by Pacers reporter):

Pacers asking for too much for Murphy
Posted by Mike Wells

The Pacers have work to do if they expect to be able to trade forward Troy Murphy before the Feb. 18 deadline.

The Pacers have already tried to send him to Cleveland, but those talks didn't last long because they were asking for too much, according to a source.

The Pacers wanted the Cavaliers to give up forward J.J. Hickson, center Zydrunas Ilgauskas and multiple draft picks for Murphy, the source said.

That's Waaaaaaay to much

Anything more than Z and a first is too much for Murphy. I'd rather do Z and a second, but our first is basically a second round pick, anyways.

This thread is SOOOOOOOOOO 2009...
