Are we really going to offer IT the max right away, even if LeBron hasn't committed yet?

I seriously doubt we do that.

I don't think IT has a chance of getting the max here until LeBron signs/commits.

He won’t get the max regardless. This isn’t 2016, teams don’t have a crazy amount of cap space. If Lowry didn’t get max offers IT won’t.

Definitely do not see IT getting his full max, which I believe would be somewhere around $32-35M

The market is just not that big next summer, due to the stagnating cap after a few years of large rises and huge contracts given out. True it only takes one, but I just don't see a team with the cap space that also doesn't already have their franchise PG or recently selected lotto PG.

But what if we wait and he walks? Who is to say he waits for LeBron? I wouldn't wait for anyone if I were him.

I actually think there’s a slightly better chance he gets the max if Lebron leaves. Gilbert will be hell bent on making the playoffs without him and IT will have all the leverage. We don’t need to go into full on rebuild mode since we have the Brooklyn pick and Kevin Love as a trade chip. I think he’s gone if lebron leaves.

Our 2019 pick owed to the Hawks is only top10 protected. There are so many bad teams in the East.

If LeBron did leave, I we would have to trade a ton of guys(Love, JR, Crowder, TT) to ensure we got that pick. That type of maneuvering could potentially lead to a 3-5 year rebuild.

It's not worth it and not necessary. IF LeBron left AND the Nets pick ends up being top3, you simply do not need to do a tank rebuild.

I thought it was lottery protected. But yeah we could rebuild on the fly the way Boston did. Plus with cedi and zizic we would be in a better position than we would have been with kyrie. Especially if that pick ends up being porter. He looks like a super star.

2019 pick was traded for Korver right?
dont understand why we set such bad protections. Its potentially problematic like you say.

I mentioned this somewhere after the trade, but the Kyrie trade allowed us to have our cake, and eat it too. We have all of our avenues open for whatever may happen.

LeBron leaves, we have a high pick, Cedi, Zizic, and pieces contenders could use who we could move which kickstarts our rebuild past normal rebuilds starting points.

LeBron commits mid-season, we have a trade chip at the deadline to acquire a good ready now player, on top of an All-Star caliber starting PG, and a very versatile wing who is always a plus for his team.

LeBron commits after the season, we still have the trade chip, but can also have our own Spurs like movement, where we try to extend LeBron's window by playing the draft game and getting younger.

We are put in a great position right now for multiple avenues because of the Kyrie trade. Was the only thing that brought my mood up from having to move on from Kyrie.

I haven't heard a single team that is in the market for him.

I think it is very possible to get him for less than the Max.

I don't know. Good question.

I think there could be strategies for paying IT the max if LBJ leaves: Trade asset for picks. Tank driver (assuming we trade away all of our good defenders and rebounders). Could keep games entertaining while losing.

Yes but that market will be extremely low priced... Given his injury, if he's not back by Thanksgiving, then I don't think he has any trade value at all.... No team will trade fair value if he's only been playing for 3-4 weeks prior to the deadline.

I project IT to be more of a lost cause at this point.... He'll be here this year, and my guess would be that he walks at the end of the season if the Cavs don't offer him a full-max.

I'm hoping that Houston implodes in the worst way and there some kind of possibility we can trade for CP3...
What do the Cavs trade for CP3? IT, Brooklyn, and Shump/filler? It seems like a lot, especially if he doesn’t work in Houston, but I don’t know what else does it?

Lebron's not going to leave. Where would he go? He just likes having Gilbert by the balls.
Well that's great and all but he is hurting his and our chances of winning by not committing. This team could get better - significantly. Is it really worth it just to maintain some sort of "leverage" ? He doesn't have too many elite years left...
