What do we do now?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why sign a guy that you cant play with your savior acquisition? Youre going to pay Varejao 8M or so to play just 24-25mpg?

Playing Varejao with Shaq means big-to-big double teams on Shaq and him also being fronted.

Then you drive to the rim with LeBron, have LeBron play on the same side as Shaq, ect.

It's not like Shaq is our only offensive player anymore. In fact, the defense collapsing on Shaq is going to open more holes in the other team's defense.

But I'd much rather have a better offensive or defensive PF than Andy.

Is Shaq really any worse at P&R defense than Z?

Also, how much of that is negated by the plus of his offensive presence and his ability to draw fouls on other teams bigs?

Huh?

If James is on the same side as Shaq I sag off James, sit in Shaq's lap, leave Varejao open at the FT line and let James shoot 20 footers to his heart's content.

I'm starting to think that some of you might be right, and that a sign-and-trade for Andy might be in the cards. If we traded Andy for an expiring contract, then our salary structure for the summer of 2010 would look like this...

PROJECTION - CURRENT 2010 CAVS ROSTER
LeBron James - $17.15M
Maurice Williams - $9.30M
Delonte West - $4.50M
Boobie Gibson - $4.02M
J.J. Hickson - $1.53M
2009 1st round pick - $0.89M
Darnell Jackson - $0.85M
2010 1st round pick - $0.85M
TOTAL - $39.08M

...which would be enough to sign another maximum level free agent.

So I'm trying to figure out which expiring-contract player we would want back for Andy.

Mike Miller just got traded, so he's probably out. New York wouldn't want to deal Al Harrington for a multi-year Andy contract. Maybe Marcus Camby? John Salmons? Luis Scola and Brian Cook? Darko Milicic? Udonis Haslem? As a pipe dream, how about Manu Ginobili?

Sign a PF and move Andy to the bench. He is more of the spirit player than the starter. Draft a swingman and pray that JJ is fantastic

And if James jumper continues to improve, then you cannot beat that offense.

Not only that, but doubling a great passer like Shaq is a foolish idea.

Good thing that's what he is doing daily in Independence now that it is summer. LeBron's J will be much improved this year. He's smart and knows he will get uncontested 3s off of Shaq and I'm sure he's working to improve this hole in his game. We all saw how his shot was improved last year, think about this, he was with Team USA for most of the summer preparing for Beijing. This summer he will be putting up hundreds of jumpers everyday until preseason. He is practically unstopable as it is, but add in a consistent jumper, it's over.

hope charlie v comes with the mle, then draft the best available wing with some size

Actually, Washington needs bigs now. So, maybe we could get Miller from them. Not saying that is what I want to do. Just saying it might be a possibility.

Childress? Does he expire after 2009?

We're gonna need Andy to be our backup C after 2010
If we can sign Charlie V. to MLE, we can convince Fegan to agree to a deal where Andy is only payed $7 mil/year, because no other team will pay more, lest want to or be able to
My plan:

Sign Villanueva to MLE
Sign A. Parker or M. Barnes to BAE
Resign Andy
Draft SF & PG
Turn Z, Hickson, & Gibson (maybe Kinsey) into a legit SG, who can slide to SF when LeBron is on the bench (Carter, Maggette, S. Jackson, combo of Posey & Chandler, etc.
Z buys out and returns
Sign J Williams to Min. Deal
Sign Smith to Min. Deal

Williams / West / Pg
Carter(Jackson...) / Parker / Kinsey
James / Young? / Williams
Villanueva / Jackson / Smith
Shaq / Varejao / Ilgauskas

In the quiet words of the Virgin Mary, come again?

We have to get rid of Andy. I honestly don't think that he is even needed right now. This is the problem with getting a player like Shaq. You need to change your entire team around just to compliment him. It is basically like trading for LeBron, if you trade for him you have to build the team around him, but now we have to try and build around LBJ and Shaq. Shaq and LBJ have conflicting styles because Shaqs game is 5 feet and in, and LeBrons game is simply driving to the hoop. With Shaq in look for LeBron to facilitate more then he will with Z in.

Back to side Show Andy, we need to trade him for a PF/SG in that order. We can get one or the other with the MLE, but we can't get both. We most likely IMO can get Childress to play the 2/3, and trade SSA for a PF that can shoot. I hope we also trade Boobie for Kidd in a S&T for Kidd at about 6.5 million and try to move up to about the 14 spot to try and nab Earl Clark or if he is still there (he won't be unfortunately) Derozen.

Sign and trade the shit out of Andy.
