What if we land #1 pick?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It seems to me Tristan Thompson and Anthony Davis would set the team up for a formidable defensive front court for years to come. What TT lacks in height/length and offensive polish Antonio Davis has in spades. There would be no reason to trade either player.

TT's wingspan, standing reach, and vertical leap are all better than most power forwards in the NBA. He's not undersized by any means other by weight, a thing you can teach. He is unpolished though. I think that AD could actually play center with his length if he put on some weight.

I would have no problem trading the pick. Davis is badly overrated and frankly no different than the prospects below him(MKG,Beal,Drummond).

I'll bite. Which one of those other guys were the clear alpha-dogs for one of the best college basketball teams in the last 20 years? Davis has elite defensive instincts, he's basically a 7 footer, he has a gigantic NBA "I'm going to be a MAN in a few years" frame, he has touch out to 25 feet, can use both hands around the rim, has humongous, soft hands, has touch around the rim with both hands, and has top-level wingspan and length, he's super-athletic, can handle the ball without tripping over himself, and he has innate toughness and a high motor. I legitimately see Kevin Garnett as his ceiling. Obviously, he has a lot of growth before he gets to that level, but compared to everyone else in this draft Davis is clearly on a different level.

If Kentucky wasn't so fricken stacked, Davis could have put up serious offensive numbers last year, but instead he just dedicated himself to being the best defensive player in college basketball and they cruised to a National Champsionship.

I'd trade it if I could get 2 top tens

This isn't the NFL where stockpiling picks helps. There aren't 22 positions in the NBA and there aren't 7 rounds of the draft there's 2. With many 2nd rounders and late 1sts never amounting to anything but pine riders.

I could see why you'd like the two picks though. You could get Perry Jones and fulfill your mancrush fantasy and disregard the whole talent thing.

Davis/Thompson at the 4/5 strikes me as very similar to the Rasheed/Ben Wallace front court in Detroit. Rasheed had the length and shot blacking of a center with perimeter skills on offense. Ben was the uber-strong athlete and interior force in a power forward's body. Together they could shut down an interior completely. I think Davis/Thompson has the potential to be even better, in fact.

Too bad we aren't getting Davis.

*Hoping that the whole reverse jinx thing works

Nick Gilbert is going to NYC, let's just take a gander at his track record thus far...

2011 Draft Lottery - The Cavaliers with a snowballs chance in hell land the #1 pick with the 8th best odds. Nick Gilbert and the basketball gods team up to not only uplift the devastated Cavalier fan base but to also punish the Clippers and Donald Sterling for being a cheap codger.

2012 Coin Flip(s) - Nick Gilbert takes down the Hornets in the coin flip for the 3rd best odds at landing the #1 pick. The Hornet fan is bummed.

Nick Gilbert with the trifecta, slides the Lakers' pick from the Ramon Sessions megadeal from pick 25 to 24.

His next feat will take place in about 20 days. If you think this has been impressive wait until one of the Heatle's blows an ACL out in the next 6-8 months and the Cavaliers own the right to swap picks.

I would trade the #1 to either Portland or NOH IF they got both of the other top 3 picks.

Not possible. The Blazers own the 6th pick, but it goes back to the Nets if it lands in the top 3.

No. You take Davis.

The more interesting question: can you imagine the look on Kevin O'Connor or David Kahn's face if we win again???

Is this is true of Davis, then why wouldn't it be true of Robinson as a fit next to TT?

While it may have been a smokescreen, Grant said that he'd have no problem taking another PF.

Robinson is clearly a step below Davis defensively. I like Robinson's tenacity on offense and on the boards... but Davis is already an elite shot blocker with plenty of room to fill out. Robinson has had an additional two years to grow into his frame on Davis as well.

I really liked your description of a Davis/TT combo, and if we end up with 4th/5th pick, Robinson and TT as a similar version to what you described sounds like a great option.

Robinson and TT would complement each other, yes. But that duo is nowhere near Davis and TT. Robinson isn't known as an elite defender but has a pretty good offensive game. Davis is going to have range out to 3 point land, fantastic finishing ability around the basket, and is also going to be a multiple time DPOY.

Rasheed Wallace was one of the best post defenders in the league on that Pistons squad, and also had a nice offensive game. Davis fits that bill way better than Robinson.

If Nick Gilbert does get the #1 pick again do we raise a banner with his name on it into the rafters; I vote yes.

If Nick brings home Anthony Davis, hand-in-hand while skipping together, then I will personally see to the construction of an exact replica of the Sphynx with Nick's head on it made out of pure gold. Wine and Gold.
