What should the Cavs get for Anderson Varejao?

Blake Griffin is not a ginger. His dad is black for fuck's sake.

Andy, JJ, Boobie and AP for Harden, Ibaka and Maynor. I think OKC would have to add a contract to make it work. They need Andy's toughness and a knock down shooter like Boobie. They could use AP's defense and shooting off the bench and they get a player who they may think has a lot of potential in JJ. We get Harden and Ibaka as our future at SG and PF and we get a good PG in Maynor who could surprise.

And they would do that because...? Ibaka already gives them what Andy does. Harden is a better all-around player than Boobie, and JJ really doesn't give them anything. Sorry, can't see OKC going for that... not with Presti there, anyway.

I'm not saying they would do that by any means...but it would be based off of their belief in the potential of those guys moreso than their play now. Ibaka blocks shots and rebounds but Andy would be a much more effective and impactful defender on any team just because of how much of a difference he makes on the game. Ibaka is athletic and has good timing but he isn't a overly smart team defender or a good post defender by any means.

As far as Harden being all around better than Gibson, I'm not buying it at the moment. He needs to produce like it before that can be proclaimed. He was a top 3 pick so I understand the sentiment....Gibson has really come into his own as a player and you can see the steady improvement in every aspect of his game while I haven't seen James Harden take many if any steps forward since he came out of school as a "meh" player.

Again, not saying they would make the trade,(not sure if I would either TBQH unless we could grab some picks) but I would disagree with the assessments you made there.

Something that suprised me from some Sixers fans is they said they would do a deal of Andy, and Parker for Thadeus Young, Maurice Speights, Kapono, and a pick.

Thought that was a lot from Philly, but I would definately take that deal

I think OKC is the team that makes the most sense if we are going to trade Andy. I think this trade would give us pretty good value:

CLE gets: James Harden, Cole Aldrich, Mo Peterson, and 1st round pick

OKC gets: Anderson Varejao and Boobie Gibson

What we get: A very good, young SG for the future, a young center that should at least be a good role-player, an expiring contract, and another pick.

What OKC gets: The defensive center they need who will do all the dirty work they need without demanding the ball (I know Ibaka does alot of the same things, but Andy has been through plenty of battles and is much more polished), and a good 6th man to replace what Harden was giving them.

I really think this trade is fair and makes sense for both sides. I really don't want to trade Andy because he gives us so much, but at a certain point, we have to face the facts and use him to help rebuild the team. This trade can go a long way in helping us accomplish that goal.

I see OKC and Houston being good destinations for Andy. I posted Andy and AP for Harden and Jeff Green in another thread but OKC won't do that- was saying that just for fun.

I don't like Jeff Green, I don't think he has an NBA position and just gets by becasue he's athletic. Harden is a good player but not what most thought as the 3rd overall. Harden is just not enough of a package to pull the trigger on an Andy deal. I would love Jordan Hill from Houston but he's in the same boat with Harden.

This works under the trade machine...
OKC gets: Andy, Powe, Courtney Lee
OKC gives: Harden, Green

Houston gets: Jeff Green
Houston gets: Courtney Lee and Jordan Hill

Cleveland gets: Harden and Hill
Cleveland gives: Andy and Powe

wat

surely they would want it to be lottery protected for like 5yrs right??

I would assume so, they guy could also mean 2nds, but if it was a first I would be suprised if it wasn't top lottery protected for a long time.

I think the biggest problem the Cavs will have moving Andy is that with LeDick leaving, Andy has sort of stepped into the PR spotlight and become the heart of this team, both on and off the court... If Andy were traded, I'm pretty sure the backlash would be pretty strong because of the way he's endeared himself to the team..

With that said, I say trade Andy when he's value as high as it's been and will ever be..

I'd love to get James Harden but I'd have a hard time seeing that happen..

Right now a young, talent swingman is probably the most likely acquisition if we trade Andy... I can't see teams giving up bigs if they need a player like Andy...

Really hurts us that Varejao is done for the season...not only for the teams purpose as the "best player" on the team...but also in trade rumors. That was posted yesterday on a site:

"Meanwhile, one other trade rumor proposed recently originated via an ESPN.com chat with Chad Ford. This has a commenter suggesting that it would be impossible to reject a deal where the Oklahoma City Thunder ship James Harden to Cleveland for Anderson Varejao and Daniel Gibson."

Andy out for the season means portland is off the table. We will not get as much for Mo and Antawn. Best case scenario I see is that we trade mo and antawn for a bad contract and a second rounder, and use the TPE to facilitate a trade for a first rounder in 2012. If Grant accompilshes that, then I think he has done a good job with not much to work with.

We could always trade him on draft night for a mid to late 1st round pick........i think now with his injury, his stock came down just a bit but we could still get a mid to late pick and pick up a big man like Jeremy Tyler or a shooter like Buford

It's unfortunate that Andy had this injury now. We're about a month away from trade talks getting serious. At the moment the league is in that "stalemate" phase where teams are looking to dump expirings for guys like Andy(we have been playing this game for years so we should all remember how it works). The teams are in contact, but both sides aren't budging over a certain young guy or certain draft picks, each hoping that the closer the deadline comes the sooner the other will blink.

I would have wagered that he would have been moved if he stayed healthy. But ultimately we just hit another stroke of bad luck unfortunately.
