Agreed, but if Toronto gets a couple young players like Hickson, Eyenga (whom supposedly they love), wouldn't that make up for it? They still get cap room next year too.
Depends on how much they like Gibson, what they plan to do with Delonte (cut or keep), what pick(s) are involved, and if cash is involved.
It'd be a little different if the player coming back to Cleveland didn't have the status Bosh has, or the team Cleveland was trading with didn't have the burden of 2 other just awful contracts plus another big contract. Losing Bosh will not please the Toronto fans. Period. It doesn't matter who is going back to Toronto. Jamison and his "18/8" doesn't matter. Hickson's potential doesn't matter. Delonte's contract which allows them to save ~$4M doesn't matter. If Bosh goes to Cleveland, attendance plummets. Merchandise sales plummet.Sponsorship deals become non-existent. Keep in mind they'll still be paying Hedo, Jose, and Bargs close to $30M.
The financial implications go WAY past the salaries involved in the trade itself.
I'd say neutral value at worst. Not negative, and it depends on the team.
How?
The Cavs expirings excluding Delonte are useless on every non-contender in the league. And Telfair is just useless on every team in the league. The team would be flushing money down the toilet.
Now if those expirings are attached to some star prospect, which Hickson is not, then it changes.
In the Toronto trade posted earlier, they are 100% useless unless Hedo or Jose is coming back, which they are not.
Technically yes, but not really. The trade is not for the expirings, the trade is for solid players like Delonte, Boobie, and possibly to get out of Turks/Joses contract (which in that case the expiring is huge). Another player that we should be looking at IMO is Amare as I don't think PHX will offer him the max contract but who knows, we shall see in the offseason.
The salary you had outgoing was barely enough for Bosh, including Hedo or Jose would tack on another $7M outgoing or so necessary to make the trade work.
But yes, if Hedo or Jose is included that changes things. But expirings in a deal for Bosh alone are a waste of money for Toronto.
edit: and I think the Suns pay Amare what he wants, especially if they have a good showing (or even win) against SA.
