Will Cavs make run at Bosh this summer?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Windhorst already said back when this rumor first came up that Bynum has a clause that doesnt allow this to occur..

Lee can probably clarify this. Bynum's contract was affected by Base year compensation(BYC) rules. The Lakers signed Bynum to a raise greater than 20% while they were above the salary cap and because of that his trade value was 50% of what the first year of his contract was worth. This makes it very hard for the Lakers to pull off a trade using him as a chip, most likely they would have to use another team to make it a three team deal.

Bynum signed his extension sometime around October 30 so most likely a trade 1 for 1 won't happen till after then. (after Bosh re-signs or signs with another team)

To me, Bosh is the biggest question mark in the off season. I could see him ending up in Houston, Dallas, Cleveland, Miami, etc. He's bound to go anywhere.

Bosh is probably going to sign with Rockets imo, and apparently the Rockets are targeting him in the offseason. Give us Joe Johnson.

They have a good opportunity to trade the draft picks they got from New York and Scola to Toronto for Bosh in a sign and trade. That's about the most talent they'll get for him. Scola is a starter and had a great year and they get young talent in return as well.

Yao/Bosh/Ariza/Martin/Brooks. That is one scary team.

I honestly wouldn't care if the Lakers got Bosh. Talent-wise they'd have an unfair frontcourt, but whenever you put 2 star players on the same team, the production of both will drop. Bosh would have to adjust to the triangle and settle for fewer shot attempts. Gasol is the softest big man in the league imo, so he won't play as well at center as he does in PF. On top of all that, this deal does absolutely nothing to improve the Lakers' bench, which is one of the worst in the league to begin with. In fact, it makes it worse because Odom's minutes would decrease since Bosh would demand at least 35. If Gasol picks up two quick fouls, there's no reliable center to back him up. CB4 would be abused by Howard, Lopez, Bogut, etc. in the post if he was forced to play center.

As for the Rockets, getting Bosh would be amazing. They'd instantly become a top 3 seed in the West imo. They'd have a solid bench, as well as an amazing starting lineup which the Lakers don't have.

I've always thought that's where he's going in the offseason, that team is going to completely dominate if that happens. Btw, did anyone else get the vibe that Dirk isn't too happy with his situation on the Mavs right now? Is it safe to dream? :chuckles:

Dirk will likely resign with Dallas. Especially if they chose to blow things up and if Cuban brings in a lot of new blood. They have Dampier's contract to dangle in front of a lot of teams so they could get a lot of talent back. But I get the feeling that maybe he is tired of underachieving. He's really the only person that shows up in the playoffs on that team. Check out his numbers for the Spurs series--fantastic numbers, but no help. But then again, he's good friends with Cuban so maybe he feels some sort of loyalty.

It would be tremendous if he signed with a contender for really cheap though.

the most overrated FA available...eek

With a bench of Hill, Lowry, Budinger, and Hayes.

Toronto will probably be getting Battier too, to make salaries match. Either him or Jeffries.

They'll probably throw in Battier because his minutes have been dropping anyway. The biggest problem with that line up is Kevin Martin and Yao Ming's health. I don't think either of those player can remain healthy for an entire season.

You always say that, and then when people point out how well Joe Johnson would fit on this team you just disappear. He's not worth a max, that's for damn sure but I'd be down to give him 11 or 12 mil a year.

The Cavs really need to go after a big man. If they can get Amare or Bosh then they have to do it. Shaq and Z won't be able to play forever and big men are harder to come by. Joe Johnson is a great player, but I'm not sure he's worth the kind of money he's going to be asking for.

I guess the Raptors are interested in Hill and not Scola according to Stein. So Hill, Jeffries, & Battier for Bosh. Maybe a pick as well.

Assuming Houston re-signs Scola, they'd only have a weak spot at backup SG which they could easily fix through the draft this year.

I've never "disappeared," nor claimed JJ wouldn't fit.

He would fit. But he's going to want a max (both in years and in dollars) contract because Cleveland is over the cap. And the Cavs would lose most of the little young talent they actually have. Those factors combined = last option explored, if explored at all.

Toronto is stupid if that's all they're asking for. Hill has been a disappointment and Battier is on the decline. I'm sure they could get a better deal elsewhere. Hell, if Bynum is on the table then I'd consider that a better deal.

I agree that the Cavs need big men for the future, but the free agents this summer are too talented and thus too expensive. Right now, we don't need to address the frontcourt spots because we have the best 1-5 frontcourt in the leauge. In a couple years Jamison, Shaq, and Z will all be too old to make significant contributions, but Danny Ferry can't afford to do anything about that now except buy draft picks and make trades for projects. We just don't have the cap space, money, or need to sign any significant big men.

And instead they want a 30 year old Scola?

That lengthens their time on the treadmill of mediocrity. Hell, that team probably wouldn't even be mediocre.

They need any youth they can get.
