I have seen a few articles surface on the net today about how Detroit will likely pursue Charlie Villanueva as signs are pointing to Boozer not opting out. I would hate for Detroit to spoil our plans of acquiring Villanueva, but I wanted to ask you guys if you thought the extra money Detroit could offer would lure a guy like Villanueva? Or is CV after the potential spotlight and the chance to play for a ring next to LBJ and Shaq in Cleveland for less money?

I honestly see Detroit as being a Milwaukee part 2 if CV decides to go there. No clear direction with the team at this point. Likely a team that will lose Rasheed and McDyess, the Allen Iverson ordeal was a big mess, Rip Hamilton probably wants to move on, etc... I hope CV and his agent realize this too, and decide to pursue a great opportunity in Cleveland.

What do you guys think?

At his age? Definitely. I think money wins out.

I don't know if it is that easy though. If Detroit plans on pursuing another big time FA along with CV I can't see them being able to offer much more than the MLE to get him.

I think it would be a bad move for CV to take a few million more to put himself in a similar situation he was in with Milwaukee. I feel that if CV came to Cleveland and played for the MLE for let's say 1-2 years then he could open himself up to really earning a BIG contract after that. He would get A LOT of national attention in Cleveland. Detroit is slowly falling under the radar.

Detroit doesn't have the MLE because they are under the cap... so they can offer 500k more a year than the MLE to try to sway him.

Tell me anyone on this board wouldn't listen to another 500k a year? Though I hope I am wrong

I'm thinking they can offer way more than that. They have millions to spend this summer, they could probably offer CV a $6-8 MIL contract for a few years if they wanted to, and then still have cash left over for Ben Gordon.

For a basketball player though 500K isn't enough to get swayed to another team, well atleast that is my opinion on that.

I totally agree.... BUT starting on a "championship calibre" team could bring you WAY more than $500,000.

Remember how much dough MJ made for his scrubs.

I'd play for the Cavs for $500,000 less than the Pistons.

My instinct is that a guy goes for the money. That said, playing alongside of Lebron and Shaq qould be one hell of a way to showcase yourself and create a bigger market for yourself (Endorsements and the like). From the look of his website, he seems like a guy that would be interested in expanding that marketability for himself. There is no guarantee that Detroit goes anywhere next season, even if they do make a big move. With Cleveland, he is joining a team that was on the cusp of a Championship but is now adding those final pieces to make it a reality. The Pistons are simply in dissaray and despite having some talent, I don't have much faith in Curry to put it all together next season.

My thoughts are 1. Boozer still might opt out 2. If not Detroit will outbid him for us 3. lol if Detroit let Billups and Rasheed walk just to maybe get CV an Ben Gordon.

I think Millsap will be the Pistons first option.

If I were the pistons and Couldn't get Boozer then Milsap would be my first option too.

That said, there are plenty of restricted FA's out there that Detroit could go after instead. But if Boozer doesn't opt out then I have a bad feeling we'll get outbid for CV. We'll know around 5PM today, that's when boozer has to decide.

I just can't see Detroit building the future of the team around Gordon, CV and Stucky. I think they either get Boozer (if he opts out) or wait until 2010 to make a run at Bosh.

The only reason for them to go after CV is if they want to use him as a piece to get Bosh in a S&T next year (CV, RIP, Price, #1 picks, etc).

People are forgetting about Hedo Turkoglu. Why wouldn't the Pistons try and get him. I can see them going for Turk and Gordan.

Hedo plays SF and they already have Prince locked up.
