Will we lose CV to the Pistons? Why or why not?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
That may be true, but let me play devil's advocate.

CV is a guy who has played on garbage teams his whole career. The BEST team he's played on was last year's Bucks team and they were 34-48 and last place in their division. By going to Detroit, he'd be going to a team past its prime, coming off a sub .500 year without a head coach even in place. The money may be a little bigger in Detroit but if he has any sense, he'll realize Cleveland is the opportunity of a lifetime - slotting in at the 4 between the best player in the NBA and an all-time great on one of the NBA's best teams. Take less money now, wait 3 years and get the big payoff when he's 28 years old, in his prime, with (hopefully) some rings under his belt.

For someone who has to be sick of losing at this point, to go to a team that is destined to finish below the other team interested in him would be pretty foolish unless he just wants to get paid... but if that's the case, I don't want him here in the first place. Hopefully we have some good advocates in Mo and LeBron who can use their connections to get him to make his decision from a competitive standpoint.

To some guys, none of what you said matters one bit.

Straight cash homey.

I can honestly say that I would be one of those guys if I was an NBA player (says the 5'7 white kid who swam in college).

Anyone who has gone through college athletics (let alone professional sports) realizes you are meat to these organization. They grind you up and spit you out.

Major colleges exploit their stars for millions of dollars for a scholarship of an "amature" athlete.

Then the guy goes to the pros and at the whim of the ownership (granted basketball is better than say football with its non-guarentteed money but it limits what guys can make out of draft and has banned strait out of high school guys)

So what's wrong with these guys looking after themselves? They are; one injury away from never playing the game that pays them or one bad coach who kills his minutes and prevents him from the next contract or a crazy owner who dooms a guy by not surrounding a talent.

Give me a break. We are fans and while I would love to see CV31 in a Cavs jersey, I will never fault him for taking care of himself in this leauge.

He is the only one who will do it so he should (god knows his agent is probably just as big a leach as his hanger'ons and the owners)

I have seen a few articles surface on the net today about how Detroit will likely pursue Charlie Villanueva as signs are pointing to Boozer not opting out. I would hate for Detroit to spoil our plans of acquiring Villanueva, but I wanted to ask you guys if you thought the extra money Detroit could offer would lure a guy like Villanueva? Or is CV after the potential spotlight and the chance to play for a ring next to LBJ and Shaq in Cleveland for less money?

I honestly see Detroit as being a Milwaukee part 2 if CV decides to go there. No clear direction with the team at this point. Likely a team that will lose Rasheed and McDyess, the Allen Iverson ordeal was a big mess, Rip Hamilton probably wants to move on, etc... I hope CV and his agent realize this too, and decide to pursue a great opportunity in Cleveland.

What do you guys think?

I agree with this. I cannot see Charlie signing with Detroit? This team is in total disarray. They have NO coach and will not have one for a few weeks. Collins? Maybe, but how could a kid who has the upside Charlie has go to a team when he doesn't even know who the coach will be, and to a team who has zero chance of winning.. at least this year?

If he could sign a one year deal with the Cavs for 6m to build up his resume, and possibly win a title as well, why not? There is going to be many more teams with lots more money next summer to spend. Can he sign a one year deal? I don't know, but if he can, that would be the way to go... with a winner. Does anyone know if that is possible? If the Cavs win the ship this year with Charlie, who knows what happens then?
