Do Not Sell My Personal Information
While acknowledging that MB didn't do his best coaching job in the Orlando series, it should also be acknowledged that the Magic were just a really bad matchup for that Cavaliers team what with their size on the perimeter and the presence of Dewey Howard. I remember people calling for Sasha Pavlovic to get starts in that series, and when you're looking for Sasha Pavlovic to be a difference maker that should tell you all you need to know about the problems we had matching up with them.

I actually thought Brown did about all he could against Orlando. The bottom line was that whoever LeBron wasn't on would go off, LeBron had to put up his absurd stat lines to keep them in games, and the Magic were historically hot from the 3 point while also having the most dominant paint presence in the game at that time. It was a perfect storm for them.

And Dwight Howard shot 70% from the foul line.

And SVG worked the officials so that they shot 50 fts in game 3.

Since we're discussing ESPN lay offs; how the hell does ESPN continue to employ the most boring people in the world like Michael Smith and Jemele Hill.

b/c apparently the exec's at ESPN are clueless. It doesn't take a long search to discover that the most common complaint about ESPN is their programming shift to sensationalized infotainment bullshit. Who would've thought people would prefer watching actual sports vs. watching two people yell over each other about god knows what. Instead of finding ways to be innovative, they've doubled-down on the tired TMZ style bullshit. Either their programming director is a complete dumbass or the executive team is set in its ways.

The pathetic thing is that the cuts made only equate to one month of lost revenue. They are losing roughly 10,000 subscribers a month.

What are you basing this claim on?

About halfway through Windy & Dave's book, one thing that really surprised me was that Nate Forbes was actually involved in a handful of roster moves (be it trades, salary negotiations, etc). I had no idea he did anything like that.

Windy didn't say that Mike Brown made good "in game" adjustments. He said he made good "in series" adjustments. The guy figure stuff out when he saw it on film, but he had a reputation for bad 3rd quarters, because 1/2 time didn't give him enough time to work it out.

In MB's defense, no one expected Lewis and Turkoglu to hit on 44% of their deep balls. We knew D12 would give us fits. I don't think we expected D12 to put up prime Shaq numbers though.

This murdered the Cavs. Z couldn't stay in the games because of his back and was our only effective guy to guard Dwight. Andy was able to slow him years later, but wasn't prepared that series. Shooting 70% meant even fouling him didn't slow him down.

Well, all of them share the same theme. So I guess all of them.

ESPN has seen a decrease in subscriptions for the last three years. Their 4 - 7 time slot, which use to be their bread and butter, is now mostly filled with the infotainment-style shows, aside from PTI, which still has a loyal following. First Take has seen a decrease in viewership for the last few years as well. What is their answer? Put the two hosts of First Take on the coveted 6 PM Sportscenter slot but instead of showing highlights, lets turn into a highlight + baseless speculation on crap no one really cares about.

Not renewing their NHL contract has hurt as they have less options to fill on-air time. They've essentially doubled-down on the NBA with the TV deal they signed. B/c of this, they must create this 24/7 news cycle built around mostly pathetic social media NBA player drama, usually fabricated purposely by NBA player's media team, in hopes that this will increase viewership for their NBA programming.

As far as alienating the public, look no further than this Reddit thread detailing the 100 on-air personalities cut. Reddit is a great way to get a pulse on how people actually feel due to it's anonymity nature. People are tired of the TMZ style crap.

It's much easier to talk about some player's tweet vs. actually providing sound insight into that player's game, ability, matchup with an opponent, etc. I think ESPN has erred in the fact that they believe the general public care more about which current NBA player is fucking a Kardashian vs. breaking down match ups in a playoff series. They been losing an estimated 3 million subscribers a year as of late, while spending more on original programming than any other outlet in existence (even Netflix) If that trend continues, they'll bring in less revenue than they've already committed to certain sports TV rights.

It's safe to say if they don't figure out a way to renew interest, they're fucked.

I agree with all of the above. One of the very few things ESPN does well anymore are the 30 for 30 docs. They are insulting the viewers with what they currently trot out as sports news.

ESPN must not be aware that most sports people want to hear about highlights, stats, and discussions with professional sports people. Not some conglomerate of shows and people mashed together to appeal to every single demo on earth with people who don't know sports more than the typical sports fan does.

We don't give a shit about the tabloid type shit; I can read Yahoo sports if I want that type of information.
