Wizards/Suns screw Magic - great DP scene

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

A frontline of Gortat and JJ Hickson makes me laugh so damn much. . . I see Cavs fans complaining about JJ's "stone hands" about as much as Magic fans complain about Gortat's butter fingers.

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

I wouldn't want Gortat to do anything but rebound and protect the rim. Ideally I would like to get Bass with him, but I don't know how much they value him.

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

I read a tweet retweeted by a Magic beat writer, the tweet said something like: Heard through 'back-channels' that the Gil trade is done.

Then the beat writer said he has to confirm to see if this is true or not, said it could take a bit.

We don't all the details of the trade, though.

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

They really should hold out until the deadline. Maybe the Hornets continue this tailspin and are out of the playoffs by that time and CP3 gets put on the block. Maybe the same happens to the Suns and Nash goes on the block. If not, thy can still get Arenas at the deadline because no one else is taking that contract on.

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

Gil would thrive in the Magic offense IMO. I think he's a better fit than Carter at this point. Call me crazy but I think this definitely makes them better if it goes through.

The Magic need a wing who can penetrate and finish at the rim... Gilbert doesn't do that any better than Carter.

(ButterMPancakes, correct me if I'm wrong)

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

To rebound and guard the rim. Or do we have an abundance of guys right now who can do that?

They don't... but that doesn't mean you pay an overpriced backup to do the job decently.

He's not a terrible player, but the Cavs don't need a guy like him right now. He would only hurt the team in the long-term because he makes them marginally better this season, but not good enough to get anywhere.

The Cavs just need to bottom out right now.

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

Gilbert might be better there, but the Magic just seem to be stuck a bit... That gimmicky offense was just so good when they were able to create their mismatches with their 6-10 ball handling SF/PF

I know VC is no defender but a backcourt of Gil and Jameer ?? Smurfs..

Exactly. The offense they run in Orlando seemed to be running as good as it ever has/will when they had Hedo and Jameer tag-teaming the playmaking. Ever since, it just does not seem as potent and there are no real mismatches.

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

It's such a sideways move imo for Orlando. However, they arel ocked into Rashard for so long that it's basically all or nothing until Dwight's contract is up. Who cares if they get locked into Gil too, because they're already so far over the cap as it is that they won't be able to get far enough under in a couple of season in order to seriously make a run at CP3 anyways. The Rashard deal killed them, but I think we all knew that when they signed it.

Still, if I were Otis SMith I would be waiting until the deadline to do this. If the Suns and/or Hornets are totally out of the playoff mix, maybe, just maybe oyu can send Brandon Bass, Daniel Orton, Jameer Nelson, and Ryan Anderson out to get either Nash or Paul.

AI2 would be the fit in orlando ...

It was a lot better at the end of the year last year and in the beginning of this season (prior to the entire team getting sick and missing days). . . the offense runs as well as the players are playing, basically. Not much to do with mismatches, it's reliant on double teams and players driving. Problem is that Nelson can't drive on everyone (because when he does the team is unstoppable) and Carter can't drive on anyone. It's more of a consistency problem than anything. Nelson isn't Chris Paul/DWill so he can't be the primary play maker and scorer all the time so often times Howard ends up having to carry too much. The Magic would basically be set with just another player that can score and make plays, guys that come to mind are Iggy, Joe Johnson, Ellis, Manu, and company. Obviously not all of those guys are available and some not ideal (Joe Johnson probably being neither).

This team can be good as ever if Arenas can take some pressure off of Nelson to make plays and score BUT he has not done much of either so far this season, and his contract being so bad makes it worrying. . .

Actually, say the new CBA lowers contracts severely, Dwight could not opt out of his contract and the year he became a FA the Magic would basically be in the position to sign two max FAs in the year I believe DWill and CP3 are FAs(assuming things aren't so different then). That becomes impossible with Arenas because his contract goes beyond that year.

No to Nash, but I agree about waiting til the deadline. . . this seems like some sort of panic trade and that's never good. Also, as good as CP3 is, there have been some reports that he's not as healthy as he should be and that his last injury might affect him a lot more than most people think. Would be something to look at.

If the Magic were looking to take on more salary I was hoping it'd be for Iggy, not Arenas. . .

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

Why don't they just trade for Hedo? Hedo doing 70% of what he was doing before is better then 100% of Vince Carter.
