Wizards/Suns screw Magic - great DP scene

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

Why don't they just trade for Hedo? Hedo doing 70% of what he was doing before is better then 100% of Vince Carter.

Because he was never that good, is even worse now, has a terrible contract, and would not make the team better. . . wait, Hedo or Arenas???

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

It was a lot better at the end of the year last year and in the beginning of this season (prior to the entire team getting sick and missing days). . . the offense runs as well as the players are playing, basically. Not much to do with mismatches, it's reliant on double teams and players driving. Problem is that Nelson can't drive on everyone (because when he does the team is unstoppable) and Carter can't drive on anyone. It's more of a consistency problem than anything. Nelson isn't Chris Paul/DWill so he can't be the primary play maker and scorer all the time so often times Howard ends up having to carry too much. The Magic would basically be set with just another player that can score and make plays, guys that come to mind are Iggy, Joe Johnson, Ellis, Manu, and company. Obviously not all of those guys are available and some not ideal (Joe Johnson probably being neither).

This team can be good as ever if Arenas can take some pressure off of Nelson to make plays and score BUT he has not done much of either so far this season, and his contract being so bad makes it worrying. . .

Actually, say the new CBA lowers contracts severely, Dwight could not opt out of his contract and the year he became a FA the Magic would basically be in the position to sign two max FAs in the year I believe DWill and CP3 are FAs(assuming things aren't so different then). That becomes impossible with Arenas because his contract goes beyond that year.

No to Nash, but I agree about waiting til the deadline. . . this seems like some sort of panic trade and that's never good. Also, as good as CP3 is, there have been some reports that he's not as healthy as he should be and that his last injury might affect him a lot more than most people think. Would be something to look at.

If the Magic were looking to take on more salary I was hoping it'd be for Iggy, not Arenas. . .

No to Nash and a maybe on CP3? Magic need to be heading all in right now. I can simply imagine a Nash and Howard pick and roll. Nash is basically Jameer Nelson, except better in every single thing that Nelson excels in.

I mean, I understand you live in Orlando and know about that team more than I do, but from where I sit the main problem isn't the lack of someone to attack the rim from the wing, but a lack of someone who is a great passer at any position on the court. Not one guy in the starting line-up is a pass first guy. I really think Nash would do wonders for the rest of that team. Richardson, who has been a scoring machine in PHX, is something I think Vince Carter could be if he played along side of Nash.

I said maybe because of health issues, but it would be a no-brainer if there was nothing serious (don't think the Magic can go through another dose of Grant Hill-years). As far as Nash, while offensively he's much better than Nelson, he's a lot worse defensively and also old. I think it's great that he has been able to end his career Stockton-like in terms of production but I don't see him keeping it up for that much longer.

And that's not to forget that his production itself would drop tremendously in Orlando, as the team doesn't run much and swings the ball a lot. I'm not sure how well he would do adjusting to a new system and it would be silly for the team to adjust to Nash.

With that being said, if a trade of Nash for Jameer came in, it's obviously a no-brainer, but I'm trying to be realistic here. . . no way would that be an available trade and I fear a more realistic trade would involve the Magic giving up too many pieces and ending up not getting better because of it.

The Magic simply lack consistent scoring AND play making from the wings. Jameer is a guy who can do both, but as I mentioned, he's no Chris Paul/DWill so he can't be relied upon to do it every night. If they get rid of Jameer, they HAVE to get a high assist guy that can score a-la Nash, but if they go after a swingman, I'd much rather see them get a guy like Iggy than a guy like Kevin Martin. The team just lacks production from the wing and it has to come either in the form of assists or scoring.

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

If Arenas was actually a SG, then this could maybe make some sense. This would be stupid for ORL IMO.

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

I was going to say that a Wince for Arenas deal felt like a Danny Ferry special. But now there's word the Magic are dealing Lewis for Arenas, which would be a much better move:

It is still unknown which player the Wizards would receive and while many think it will be Vince Carter, there is a growing belief that Rashard Lewis will be the Magic player dealt. Talks between the Wizards and Magic had taken place since the summer, but Orlando's recent rough patch helped discussions along.

The Magic continue to shop Vince Carter and Marcin Gortat which has led some sources to believe that the team could complete a second trade with these chips.

League sources confirmed that Smith has talked with the Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers, and Denver Nuggets. Orlando has had discussions with the Suns about a deal that would bring Hedo Turkoglu back to Florida. Lon Babby, the president of basketball operations in Phoenix, allegedly didn't make the trip to Dallas recently so that he could continue working the phones.

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

If they trade Lewis for Arenas maybe they would want Jamison to replace him. Bass, Gortat, and a small salary would work for Antawn. I can't imagine they would do it, but who knows.

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

They don't... but that doesn't mean you pay an overpriced backup to do the job decently.

He's not a terrible player, but the Cavs don't need a guy like him right now. He would only hurt the team in the long-term because he makes them marginally better this season, but not good enough to get anywhere.

The Cavs just need to bottom out right now.

How overpriced is he? He makes just about MLE money for a 26 year old center that can rebound and defend. If you have scorers at the other 4 spots, he would be perfect. Or if you have Andy and Gortat on the floor at the same time you lock down the paint defensively. I know most of you are fascinated by superstars, but they way to win championships is with stifling defense.

It's not better financially or in basketball terms. . . BUT, trading Lewis for Arenas makes me almost 100% that Wince will also get traded, because Howard wouldn't be able to make a lineup of Nelson/Arenas/Wince(or Qrich)/Bass/Howard a top 5 defensive team, and Otis would need to be checked into a hospital for possible brain damage.

If he somehow gets both Arenas and Hedo I might have to join the Timberwolves bandwagon :chuckes:

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

I'm hearing it could be for Rashard (which financially makes no sense for Washington) + Gortwat.

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

Who's gonna want Vince Carter though?

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

If Chris Paul and Dwight HOward are on the same team, Dwight Howard is still option 1 on offense.

Not in the 4th quarter.

Re: Magic discussing deal for Arenas

Do you think Melo would wanna stay there in Orlando because the Magic are trying to get him
