Z chatter

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This really is a weird tangent. I think whether Z should have his jersey retired is debatable, but not whether he should hang out with the team, go out for drinks, help them practice, or involve himself in any way that he and the players are comfortable with.

Trying to get a feel on the board census before you develop your opinion and discuss it?

The guy deserves to have his jersey retired here. He has always been more than a stellar player and individual. He is definitely one of the first I think of when I think of TRUE cavaliers...

Re: Cavs Media Day

Yeah, that's exactly what I said. Wasn't making another point, at all.

You're awesome.

Erm, in case you forgot I'll point it out to you. It's exactly what you were implying.

First, all good points, I'll try to lighten up.

On the first bold, how did that turn out for us? Not saying it's the reason we don't have a ring, but would Michael have hit the game winning shot if Ehlo's mind and body were a smidgen quicker? Bonding is great, and important, but so is getting the body and mind to perform at top level. There are always exceptions perhaps due to personalities of course, and occasionally some beer can be good for a guy, help them settle their mind the right way or get out of a mental funk.

You're implying that Ehlo's mind and body had slowed down because he was drinking.

so when will we get our Z statue? Because we all consider him such a legend. Definitely 1.b with Jim Brown as the greatest cleveland sports figure.

/sarcasm

Seriously, respect and admiration =/= irrational nostaligia and whorship.

Seriously, who's being irrational or "worshipping" the guy?

He's earned the respect of the fan base, not sure how you can say otherwise.

You're implying that Ehlo's mind and body had slowed down because he was drinking.

What is this politics? Either you don't read well or just plain don't want to understand. I raised a question to provoke thought about alcohol, it's affect on the body, and some possible consequences on a basketball court. IF means IF. I am not implying he was drunk that day or the night before. WITHOUT alcohol, if he were a smidgen quicker, or a little sharper, would the shot have got in? Answer yourself that first.. The answer may be yes, because it could be a bad example..

But the POINT that you're missing is that the game is so dependent on so many close things.. NEAR blocks, NEAR steals, things where a fraction of a second matters. A block with just a fingernail on a jump shot. They add up over time and can affect a game. If the option exists to be a little bit sharper, quicker, healthier, and smarter on the court, why not take that option?

Could it not conceivably make a difference in even one close basketball game?

I'm all for bonding and everything, and I love the comments about these guys monitoring each other and taking care of each other by hanging out together in groups. Maybe you can count on these guys to figure out who's driving and all that. But they're 20 years old for craps sake. Let's not make it seem like beers after practice is a good idea. We need these guys healthy. If the character talk about these guys is correct, this is likely a wasted conversation.

But please don't play the hyperbole game with me. You bolded a sentence that was explained not to be meant the way your interpreted it in the sentence that preceded it.

If you guys could get another run of that Jordan play against Ehlo, you know you'd want to give it one more try, hoping he could get a fingernail on the ball. Not saying alcohol played a part in this, but speed, sharpness, and athleticism did. All things that are affected negatively by alcohol.

Clearer now?

Clearer now?

Not really, but I drank beer two days ago...

Well it's clear I'm painting myself into an anti-beer, anti-Z corner.. Not really the case.

Truth is they're two of the finer things in life, in moderation.

Props to Z and everything he's done here. I just struggled during his era wanting the Cavs to do something a little different. It's not his fault we didn't go further, he contributed more than most. He definitely belonged here, but additional pieces needed to be brought in to help. They weren't and it was frustrating. Z had a place on the team. But depending on him to do things that just weren't him I think is where we went wrong. Again, I'd like to look at Ferry as the guy who could have done things differently, not Z. But that's for another thread, day, topic, etc.

It took me a few beers to chill out about this for today btw.. The magical beverage that it can be.. I love all you guys and appreciate your views. The idea of this forum too, discussion about what we see. Just a previously frustrated Cavs fan, more with Z than LeBron puts me in the minority. But all that's over now. I have been ready to move on for a long time and that was my only goal here. For the new players that didn't witness the Cavs as much, Z's impact could conceivably be a positive one for the Cavs moving forward. From my viewpoint, I'm still harping on some of his negatives on the court. But as a contributer, those negatives can possibly be negated. I would prefer a new mentality to the way we approach the game, and I think coach Scott and our current roster bring quite a bit of that. My fear of Z's not-aggressive-enough mentality is probably irrational, and likely won't rub off on guys on the current squad. I am not a big fan of looking back unless something was good, and I didn't experience Z the same way many of you did. I surely made irresponsible statements in the process of today's conversation ("Z worshipers" for example), and for that I apologize.

As a Cavs fan I'm ready to move on. My perception that that isn't happening enough simply because Z is around is also likely irrational. I just am really starting to believe in this team, and many of the guys on it, more than I ever believed in Z (really, nothing personal here, I like a lot of his game). So please excuse me if I mis-characterized Z or how I felt about him. It's all about the Cavs and my wanting their success, as it likely is for all of us no matter how you feel.

Cheers and lets go Cavaliers 2012!

eh? We've already discussed it, and I've stated my opinion. I'm sure we'll re-hash through it again when the Cavs make it official.

Talking about basketball, beer, women, bars, night clubs, jersey retirements, dehydration, quickness of mind, and legacies in one place? Never change, RCF...I love you guys.

Can't wait for Craig Ehlo's new memoir to come out in January:

The Shot: How My Alcoholism Lost Us The Game.

Followed up by a sequel:

I Swear Pink Elephants Were Keeping Him In The Air

You guys are thinking about this the wrong way. Everyone knows Jordan was cranked up on smack when he hit that shot.
