I have a defensive ranking of sort.
Here is an article explaining exactly what adjusted plus/minus is and does: http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/4082/meet-adjusted-plus-minus
I am not going to explain it at all, I will let the article speak for itself. However, I post these stats with somewhat of an asterisk. This stat is very fluky and can have some random noise. For example, Dwight Howard had a very average rating last year. That doesn't mean it's a bad stat, it just means it's still a very new statistic that we are still learning about. Take what you want out of it. If you want some good examples of it, LeBron, Pryzbilla, Ben Wallace, and Marcus Camby were all at the top of the league last year, all very good defenders.
For a much more in-depth explanation, go here: http://www.82games.com/barzilai2.htm
As for the ratings, they don't favor Jamison at all. He has the worst defensive rating on the Wizards this year, at +7.87.

Now, since this year is an admittedly small sample size, so we can go back to last year also. While it was better at +1.88, it still leaves something to be desired.
Z this year is at +2.14. Last year, however, he was at -3.19. (on a side note, AV leads the league with a -13.74.)
Sometimes stats don't always tell the story though. Here is Hollinger's opinion:
My take from all this is that Jamison is average, at best. However, we have had much worse defenders than Jamison starting at PF, and we have always been a top 3 team in the league in terms of defense no matter who was starting at PF. I have said this before, I don't really think it matters how bad a defender we get at PF. I trust MB to make it work.
You'll have to excuse me Obawan...but none of those #'s you listed match-up when I went to check them, at least from what I can tell.
Don't you think Cleveland's D is just a tad bit better than Washington's....and that might have a little bit to do with why Jamison has a lower rating? You said it yourself, you don't think it would be a huge deal plugging Jamison into our line-up because of Mike Brown's defensive mentality and our team defense.
