2014 NBA Playoffs Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't really think either guy deserves blame. I mean that last Westbrook shot was a shot with 7 seconds left, down 4, and no timeouts. He can drive for a 2 and score with like 5 seconds left and then what? You're down 2 with no timeouts and the Spurs have the ball. A 3 is the only chance to win the game.

They just have no good role players. Jackson was the only guy worth a damn off the bench and he had to be moved into the starting line-up. HOpefully Lamb and Jones and Adams mature into some decent players. But they didn't have a guy like Manu or Diaw on the bench.
that is pretty much a necessity unless their ownership decides to stop being so damn cheap. those rookie deals are too valuable to a team like that.

ok? that tends to happen when you take away a teams second best player (especially when the team is so top heavy).

Your posts made it sound like you were blaming Russell for the loss, when he's really the main reason why they were even in the game in the 1st place.

Exactly this. I called it at the time. That Reggie Jackson timeout killed OKC.

I agree. I think most of the blame should go to Presti (and the ownership group), while the rest should go to Brooks. The Perkins move has backfired in a big way. It was great when they were a young team who needed a vet presence and a culture change to become tougher, but he doesn't fit the team anymore and isn't the same caliber of player. Should have amnestied him when they came out of the lockout...might have let them keep Harden if they do that. Also, Brooks also has to know that you don't have to start him or even play him, yet he rides him for ~20 minutes a game...that's almost half of the game playing 4 on 5...puts a lot of pressure on Durant and Westbrook to create offense themselves and take some terrible looking shots. Also, why is Derek Fisher playing 33 minutes in an elimination game and why are you relying on the Mike Brown 3 PG lineup in the playoffs against a smart team that can exploit mismatches? I think Westbrook and his shot selection is a product of an undermanned team that needs him to do too much.

hence my "westbrook giveth, and westbrook taketh away" comment. he played well for a while then was largely awful towards the end.

the blame goes all around in okc. now it gets interesting to see how their front office reacts.

Hibbert for Jackson, Adams, and Perkins. Who says no?

Stop. Your Hibbert trade scenarios have been terrible. Nobody is giving up nearly that much for Hibbert.

Steven Adams by himself is probably too much for Hibbert.

Caron Butler? Thabo Sefaloshia? Nick Collison? Where were the vets in the biggest game of the season?

Guarantee if they put him on the block he gets something like that in return. It was one playoffs. Indiana wasn't the team that signed him to all that money. That was Portland. Over the course of the 2 seasons since Portland signed him to that sheet, he's been better than he was prior to that. And he's 26.

Quite frankly I'm not sure if that's enough for Indiana. They're the ones taking on the bad contract in the deal, Perkins. Then you've got an unproven Steven Adams. Who knows if he'll be any good. And then a bench player in Reggie Jackson that may or may not be starting quality, but likely to never make an all-star game. People will have a hard time wiping the playoffs out of their memories, but prior to that it wouldn't have even been a question that Hibbert would be the best player in that deal.

Go back to February. Roy Hibbert is an all-star (not the first time in his career) and the front-runner for DPOY. Now who thinks that OKC is giving up too much? Hell, Indiana would never have even considered the deal I just proposed. So does a bad three months totally destroy all of his value to the point that a deal that likely wouldn't have been enough to get Hibbert 3 months ago is now too much to give up for him? Especially when he's still young and hasn't suffered a major injury? I say no. I say his value hasn't dropped that much.

Most of the blame on Presti? The only thing the guy has done wrong was trade Harden, which was pretty monumental. I guess the Perkins deal doesn't look great now, but they got some useful years from him. Should've been amnestied last year.

Other than that the guy has drafted amazingly. Not going to include Durant because he was a no brainer, but here are the 1st round picks that OKC has kept since drafting Durant: Ibaka, Westbrook, Harden, Reggie Jackson, Perry Jones, Steven Adams; 3 All Stars, 2 youngsters who look like they have very bright futures and Perry Jones who hasn't gotten regular minutes yet.

yeah Harden would of done alot to stop the Sprs from scoring 38 in the third quarter.

The Harden deal takes too much heat. They would have had to move someone at some point and probably the next year (last year). When you look at the 3 potential candidates to get traded, I'd say they chose right in trading Harden instead of Westbrook or Ibaka. Did they trade him a year before they had too? Yea, but then again what difference did it make? Westbrook gets hurt at the start of the playoffs. Even with Harden that team isn't a contender w/o Westbrook.

I have to wonder if it happens for Durant/Westbrook duo anytime soon.
