I am glad to see he is back out there after his injury in spring training.

Diaz and Naquin are still hitting the ball well at AAA and Clevinger put in another solid start as well. Diaz has split his time between LF and 3B mostly in the minors. Urshela has actually been playing some SS (I am guessing to increase what he can do on the diamond) It is possible Clevinger makes a spot start or two coming up here soon cause of Kluber's injury.

Clevenger is going to make the starts while Kluber is out.

Hamilton did say though if there is a rain out today (and there was) they can go to a 4 man rotation cause of a day off and Kluber if healthy could be back before they need another starter. Now we don't know how long Kluber will be out, but I don't mind giving Clevinger a couple starts just to make sure Kluber is 100%

I would love to see what the kid has. I would love this sample size in a perfect time to get a taste for him. I wish him well I think he has the tools and the mind to show something at least.

Clevinger should 100 percent be the guy this give this chance to and maybe Marriot Hotel who overcame... Never mind that. Clev is the guy who needs time up here and soon as he is seen as some as Ace material. That aside this shows the amazing depth we have at starting pitching and our Bull-pen is like facing a wall with spikes with holes in between that and asking hitters to hit those. In other words do not worry and as Baseball goes lets treat every start as is. The term "Next man up" is made for MLB starters.

Clevinger will be the guy if they decide Kluber needs more DL, but for now we will see how Kluber is feeling after 10 days

Top 3 of Esparza, McKenzie, and Pannone in Lynchburg is ridiculous. 3 of them combined to go for a 2.66 ERA in 355.2 IP last year, with a K/9 of 9.3, and a K:BB ratio of 3.7.

Figured I'd pop in quick, with Pannone promoted up to Akron, and I'd tally this trio's finally stats in the same rotation...

80 IP, 1.69 ERA, 57 H, 24 BB, 94 K...yet somehow that group was only 5-4 in 15 combined starts.

Add in Shao-Ching Chiang and Lynchburg's top 4 starters over that period posted a combined 1.73 ERA in 114.1 IP in 20 combined starts...ridiculous...even more ridiculous that the team is only 13-12 while getting starting pitching like that.

Is he supposed to be a heavy strikeout guy? I don't know much about him

Yes. Previous 4 professional seasons he sat a little over 9 Ks per 9 IP.

Mentioned in last years thread that he added a change up last season, which I think is a big deal, considering he is a lefty and not many lefties utilize a change up in pro ball for some reason.

From what he is saying, it sounds like he tinkered with his mechanics towards the end of last year, which is when he initially went on this scoreless run he is currently on (think his last 16 or 18 IP of last season he didn't give up an earned run).

Depending on how much he uses it, the change up probably added a few MPH to his fastball to the hitters he is facing, which is a pretty big deal...couple that in with b00bie saying he was hitting 93 this year (believe he sat mostly high 80s his first few seasons) and that his curve is still his best pitch period, and I think he just put together the right combo at the end of last year, with an improved arsenal and better mechanics, and that's carrying over through the off season and early this season as well.

Think someone mentioned he didn't give up a single run in minors Spring games too.

Also always been a guy who limits hits as well...never had a full pro season where he has given up more hits than innings pitched, and continues to lower his BB rates as well.

Shane Bieber's Lynchburg debut: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 7 K

As a pro, in 59 IP, he has 59 strikeouts and 3 walks...I think that's pretty good. Should be on TV more in High A now, so I'm excited to see him.
