2017 MLB Offseason

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I wouldn't mind kicking the tires on Smyly, assuming he has the cheapest price tag of the 3 Rays starters. He has talent, just hasn't put it together. Would love to see what Mickey could do with him.

Unfortunately I don't think there will be a cheap option this year for starting pitching. Even an unfinished product like Smyly is going to command a lot. When Rich Hill and Jeremy Hellickson, who will cost a team a 1st rounder to sign now, are in line to be the highest paid free agent starters, you know the pool is weak.

This is the winter I listen carefully to offers on the Indians starters...if a team wants to bite on Tomlin, I'd be more than alright with it, because odds are we get well above market value for him. Still be wary of trading the other 4 though, and it would take a massive overpay for me to be okay with it.

The lack of free agent pitching is going to make a team or teams desperate...good chance they come crawling to the Indians when that happens...

I wonder how much it would take to get Chris Archer.

Alright, things we got going on today...

Actual moves:

Craig Counsell and the Brewers agreed to a 3 year extension

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. signs with the Jays for 22 million over 7 years

Bartolo Colon signs with the Braves for 1 year, 12.5 million

Rumors:

Market for Jason Castro is heating up...seems like he will sign soon

Rays are most likely to move one of Drew Smyly, Chris Archer, or Jake Odorizzi this winter

Tigers are listening to offers on pretty much every one of their vets (Cabrera, Verlander, Victor Martinez, Kinsler, JD Martinez)

Orioles are interested in Josh Reddick...some chatter that he is looking for a deal around 10-12 million a year

Twins are listening to offers for Brian Dozier...also some rumors that they may non-tender Trevor Plouffe and make him a free agent this winter

More:

Blue Jays going after Kendrys Morales

Yankees willing to eat a ton of money on McCann's deal in a trade

Morales gets 3/33 from Toronto (holy hell what an overpay)

Philadelphia acquires Howie Kendrick for Darin Ruf and Darnell Sweeney.

Jesse Chavez getting 6 million with 3 million in incentives to start for the Angels next year...yikes...

Mariners just traded for Danny Valencia, and it sounds like he will be playing 1B/DH/OF for them.

Important for the Indians because the Mariners were one of the teams supposedly interested in Napoli.

Rejected qualifying offers so far (deadline is 5 PM today):

Dexter Fowler
Mark Trumbo
Justin Turner
Kenley Jansen
Edwin Encarnacion
Jose Bautista
Yoenis Cespedes
Ian Desmond

Wow...Jeremy Hellickson just accepted his qualifying offer...

And the starting pitching pool just gets worse and worse...
