2018 Draft Prospects Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Anyone who says Barkley can't run downhill might need to do a quick google search on local psychwards.

It's a category error to say that a running back "can't run downhill" - which is why no one is actually saying that. The concerns about Barkley are about running *style*, not ability. Does his running style complement his actual ability?

What I don't understand is given the love affair this board has with Duke Johnson, why clamor to spend a #4 pick on a running back who will marginalize the supposed MVP of the offense? If you draft a back at that spot he darn well better be a 3-down, 75% of the carries type guy.

Isn't Duke a UFA after next season?

That's correct. No reason he can't be retained on a good deal, which is why I wouldn't focus on drafting an every-down back unless it was a sure thing. Find a difference maker at another position. To me that's Fitzpatrick. Fitzdawg and Peppers as two versatile pieces in a secondary feels like it could give offensive coordinators problems and allow the Browns to tailor their game plan to their opponents much better. Invest in the secondary, please.

Eh...I think drafting an every down back would be great for the team because you could very easily swap him and Duke in and out interchangeably like Atlanta does with Freeman and Coleman. Having two guys who are capable of making positive plays in both the run and pass game would be beneficial for the team, not detrimental.

Might it be time to start evaluating available offensive tackles in the earlier rounds? Joe Thomas is looking pretty damn lean. Perhaps he hasn't been able to do much upper body work, but couple this with his recent candor on Twitter and his podcast, and he's acting like a soon-to-be NFL retiree.

Seriously???

The dude looks like he is in shape with a loose fitting shirt. Thomas has never been a huge guy.

Also what podcast did he say he was retiring? I would have thought thst would have been huge news

I guess my point is, if you draft Barkley, then Duke Johnson's touches almost certainly will go down. If you draft Fitzpatrick, you're that much mess likely to run Mike Jordin or Kai Nacua out there, or you can move Peppers to SS, etc.

Unless you're damn confident in Barkley being that much better than Fitzpatrick (and I'm not), take the greater value and need.

Never said he outright announced a retirement. He's been doing a podcast with Andrew Hawkins for the last few weeks and talking more openly and candidly about things related to the league.

I just want the guy to return for the sake of our shiny new QB investment. Maybe I should go make myself a tinfoil hat :chuckle::chuckle::chuckle::chuckle:.

There was a video in that building the browns series about how Joe tries to get as lean as possible in the offseason before ramping up his weight closer to training camp so that he doesn’t always have a ton weight on his joints and what not, so this is probably just his normal routine.

Ahhhh. Makes sense. Thanks for the info!

What else has Thomas said that could be indicative of that notion? Did a quick search at work but couldn't find much.

Carlos Hyde fits the mold perfectly.

Holy crap, what a fucking pro.

We need to sign JT to a lifetime service contract, everything he does makes me like him even more.

Getting a chuckle out of our penchant for drawing conclusions from photos. :chuckle:
