Cavs Draft News Tweets

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Whew, initial reactions are something else. That's what message boards are for I guess, but 2nd round picks dont mean shit in a draft like this one. There might be one or two surprises, but odds are a lot of teams wasted a TON of time with all the scouting, trading, and phone calling after pick 25 tonight...

So we have five 6'8-9 power forwards now...Two of which were in our top 3 in scoring and one of which is our 4th overall pick( not to mention the other one that an assistant coach said was better than Kevin Love). And that does not include our draft and stash.

We also now have 4 pgs. The first overall pick and 3 of the teams other top 5 scorers.

We have Andy at center until he gets injured. And street free agents at the wings.

Wow. Just wow. All the sudden I really feel bad for kyrie.

Cavs take a PF having Hickson, Minn took Williams having Beasley, Jazz take Kanter having 4-5 other good bigs.... Odd draft. Don't hate the pick but woulda took Knight if I was Grant and trade Gibson and Sessions. Knight would be money as a 6 man like Jason Terry....

I feel satisfied with what we got tonight......obviously the buyout for Jonas was too much for the Cavs to deal with so they took the next player on their board. Thompson is a tough 4 and i think will suit this team. Hickson is probably on his way out. Was disappointed we didnt use the trade exception but we still got a week to use it. I'd give this draft an A-

An A-?????????????

Out of those 5 PF's, we have 1 that is part of our future.

Kyrie Irving - At least we didn't fuck that up.

Tristan Thompson - He will be better than Hickson, but I don't think the goal of a top 4 pick should be to find a guy that will be better than Hickson. Half of the first round will be better than Hickson.

Justin Harper - At 32 you can still find a player that can contribute to a team. Passing on a guy like Honeycutt who would come in and be a starting wing is bad enough, but to do it and blow the pick on 2 future 2nd round picks that won't be higher than this one is pretty fucking dumb.

The Foreign Guy - Whatever. No one cares about these picks anyway. Good thing we traded for 2 future ones tonight.

First of all, #1 overall picks always go to bad teams...duh.

Secondly, do you really think this team is done making moves?

Third, if we do suck, that would be fucking awesome since 2012 draft is supposed to be incredible.

So chill out.

I know this won't make anyone feel any better, but the folks at ESPN, who generally hate the Cavs, love this draft.

And make great points.

I think some people wanted a player at 4 that didn't exist. The only real gripe I'm willing and ready to hear is that they screwed up the #32. The #4, they went with their 2nd best player on the board and a guy who will play really good defense.

Yeah, and Joe Lull said it best about Thompson

Shock of the night:

Bigjmac being positive about this draft!

Too bad thanks are turned off, I would've thrown some rep your way for the first time.

The first overall pick was essentially a lay-up. The GM can't get major kudos for taking the guy that most everyone said was the best guy. He gets judged on the #4 pick. Thompson seems to be very likeable, smart and a hard worker which are all positives. But it is hard to be too excited about a player that shoots 48% from the foul line yet is touted for his ability to get fouled. This in combination with his inability to shoot at all seems to make his upside very low. While defensive stoppers are nice they are not top 4 talents. I am at a loss as to what the numbers show that make him the #3 guy from John Hollinger or anyone else. I fear it is one of those times where the athletic skills take precedence over the basketball skills.

I really dont know what you guys were expecting...we got the best player and potentially one of the best bigs. We have the trade exception, Jamisons contract, Hickson and Andy to find our center and wing players with.
