Cavs Draft News Tweets

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
]First of all, #1 overall picks always go to bad teams...duh.

Secondly, do you really think this team is done making moves?

Third, if we do suck, that would be fucking awesome since 2012 draft is supposed to be incredible.

I am "chill". I just see a poorly managed roster. I realize that there will be moves made. But, once again, that will have to sell low, not High. The roster is really constructed as a mismatch, or mishmash, of players. Clearly grant is a saber metrics guy. Which I suppose is fine. But slapping together Guys who rank highest in your metric does not equate to team constructing.

Also, you have to consider that these guys are actual real people. You now have a tEam that is largely constructed of pf an pg that knows they and not going to get any time. So morale will be low.

Sure a large chunk of that will be addressed when they attempt to salary dump our dead weight, but frankly, we don't even know what that entails with the new CBA coming up.

As for tanking for next year, I always agree with that method. Take a couple years of being bad to get. The high picks in place to be good in the long run. However, I just don't see this team flipping its redundant assets for high picks in a draft everyone wants a part of. Again, setting themselves up to sell low.

I don't mind the players, per say, just the sloppy and slapdash construction methods.

So chill out.[/QUOTE]

So we have five 6'8-9 power forwards now...Two of which were in our top 3 in scoring and one of which is our 4th overall pick( not to mention the other one that an assistant coach said was better than Kevin Love). And that does not include our draft and stash.

We also now have 4 pgs. The first overall pick and 3 of the teams other top 5 scorers.

We have Andy at center until he gets injured. And street free agents at the wings.

Wow. Just wow. All the sudden I really feel bad for kyrie.

Well, seeing as Kyrie is going to have a bunch of bigs that can at least play the pick-and-roll game well, I think Kyrie is going to be just fine.

Good way to mask the lack of a true offensive game, run the pick and roll with a good PG and fade into the open spots. I think this is where Thompson is going to be "better" than JJ, he has that "feel" for where the opening will be on the pick and roll and fades nicely into it. Irving is a great PG in that capacity already, so the two will work well together.

Varejao has already shown how solid of a pick and roll guy he can be, and Hickson is athletic and though not as technical of a player, he's still pretty explosive around the rim. His development of a jump shot (somewhat) has certainly helped. Let's not forget that he had 11 double-double in the last two months of the season and 9 in his last 11 games. He's been bad in areas, but he's still young and getting better.

I think Kyrie has some pieces in place that will be able to complement the kind of game he can play well.

Plus, if the offense needs a SG or a SF, they need a sharp shooting one that can create his own shot. Didn't really see that guy anywhere in the draft. Don't give me MarShon Brooks or Tyler Honeycutt either. I mean like a REAL one.

Sloppy and slapdash? We're you in the war room when the Cav's FO was trying to make moves? Like before, you're completely wrong and shortsighted.

What happened with the Clippers pick this year undoubtedly will make it much harder if not impossible to get 2012 picks (loaded draft) that don't contain total lottery protection as no one wants to see what happened to the Clippers happen to them.

So for as much as it was a huge score for us this year, it will end up killing our ability to replicate it going forward as teams are going to think twice before ever doing something similar.

God damn, did I just walk into Cav-fuckin-fanatic?!

Calm the hell down people!

If you want to disagree with the picks, fine. But.. the world is not ending.. the organization is not in collapse.. Gilbert/Grant are not in over their heads.. and people calling for Grant's heads are being ridiculously over-dramatic.

This draft was exactly what everybody said it was. Irving/Williams and the rest.

They are called "the rest" for a reason. Nobody stands out that bright.

You guys complain about Hickson's mental lapses on D, then bitch when we draft a PF who will play strong D.

We got our guys, and our #1 priority in this draft in Irving.

You guys bitch we drafted Harper, then bitch that we traded him?! Talk about contradicting arguments.

You guys are actually bitching that we didn't draft David f'n Lighty?! That David Lighty, who would've been the 54th pick in a weaker class, isn't going to be our starting SF/SG? Really?! Do you realize how ridiculous you guys sound right now?!

Calm down, step away from the ledge, and oh, here's an idea.. how about we watch how these guys play before you bash them & Grant?

God damn, I'm ashamed of this board right now.

Edit: Why does everybody keep saying Orlando's future 2nd's will be mid-late 2nd's? If they are, in fact, in 2013 & 2014, as reported by the PD, Howard will be gone.

Thank you. People spent the whole season bashing JJ because he has no IQ and has no hands and is just all around bad. Now we got somebody who I guarantee will be better than JJ in Tristan Thompson and ya'll are moaning over drafting him. Yeah I wanted Jonas V too but we got Thompson. Tristan is not garbage.

I agree...except for the part about Lighty.

I'm not even an OSU fan but Lighty reminds me of another SG who was a team player in college and then went undrafted - Wes Matthews.

Oh, and I've seen David Fucking Lighty's name in this thread so many times in the last few pages I want to puke.

People make it sound like if the #54 pick was Lighty, then this draft was fine and dandy.

Listen to yourselves people.

Go back and look at the last 10 picks of drafts for the past bunch of years. You know who you find?

A bunch of shitty dudes, Will Blalock, Ramon Fucking Sessions, and a couple of EUROS that are actually doing a little bit of something. Mainly though, a bunch of dudes you've never heard of, though I did see Scoonie Penn's name out there. He was AWESOME, wasn't he? Why oh why didn't Cleveland draft that guy?

Embarassing.

EDIT: Reminds me of the time where all these people cried and cried because Cleveland passed up Chris Douglas-Roberts, Kosta Koufos, and Darrell Arthur for a relatively lesser known PF - JJ Hickson.

Wonder how that one worked out. I mean, CHRIS DOUGLAS-ROBERTS! He was sooooooooo good in college!

100% agree. Great post. People need to chill out and get some sleep.

MoFlo saved this thread. If only there was some Thanks to give right now, this board feels so empty without it.

Starting to come down to earth... I'll tell you what: JJ better get the most touches ever in Cavalier history because he's our biggest trading chip. Say if he averages 18 and 10 or 20-10. He can net us a top 10 pick. Maybe a 7 overall pick, 6 at the highest IMO.

So operations in effect: Tank. Give the ball to JJ. Free Chalupas every night to encourage the dying fan base right now. Play your best against the Heat.

For whatever its worth, Casey, the new Raptors coach said Jonas could be here next year with a maximum of a three year delay.

Really with the personal attacks? I'm not saying they were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. I'm saying I think there are better ways of rebuilding than waiting till your assets are worth less to sell them.

Like I said, I'm not bashing the players selected. I'm disagreeing with the methodology they appear to be applying.

Yes, I consider it sloppy to put yourself in a position where you most tradable asset is at a low value point ( jj). Just like I thought it foolish not to trade Andy last offseason while he was still associated as a big part of a winning organization. With a team so shallow in talent, you must make sure that you get every ounce of value from what you have. Cudos to grant for the mo trade for doing that, but just don't see it else wise.

If it's wrong or shortsighted to think that teams be constructed in a way that maximizes their long term value of their pieces, then so be it.

Right now I really wish there were a thanks button!

so... "User Snarly says thanks for this useful post"

Hickson is at a low value point? He avged 17/11 after the All Star Break ...

I agree on Varejao though. Dude shoulda been traded while he was hot.
