Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm not saying Kizer is good, but if it's starting him or Chase Daniel, I think I like the idea of an open competition between the two.

He has some upside at least until our #1 pick is ready for the job.

Ideally, we sign a better bridge quarterback. However, I've seen them say they want to add a vet. They never said they want to add a vet to start.

I doubt we wont add the Vet to start in my opinion. It doesn't make sense to throw a young QB out there right away in my mind. I would rather have them sit for at least the first half of the season.

Bridge QBs have failed 100% of the time since 99.

Sign Cousins or BURN!

We also signed older QBs and put them on really bad teams with no OLine and a guy like McCown and Hoyer, weren't bad QBs for us, we just didn't develop the right guy behind them. If anything we essentially told Hoyer, even though you have been winning games for us, Manziel is more important to get snaps than you are, hence why he left. Also why Pettine stopped caring in year two as the coach since he wasn't allowed to be a coach, but thats a different matter.

I think a bridge QB this offseason will be a bit different, since you have talented ones like Bradford or you have hungry, smart QBs like McCarron who want to prove themselves. I am guessing the Glennon type of contract will be coming someones way in due time.

Case Keenum is a steal at 15 million dollars. Have no idea why the Vikes are letting him walk. The naysayers claim he benefitted from having 2 outstanding wide receivers. Well, then get him 2 outstanding wide receivers.

Don't want anything to do with Cousins. Tyrod, Teddy or MCCaron, although AJ would be my second choice.

Look, I don’t like Case Keenum much.

But he’s almost certainly better than A.J. McCarron.

Rather have AJ McCarron to be honest.

Keenum is going to get way over paid, and might be group think if we sign him, the QB position is solved. No thank you.

All Keenum will be is a 25 million dollar bridge QB. Give me Rosen and AJ, let AJ start half the season or so until Rosen looks like he is ready.

If we are going to pay 17-22 million dollars a year on a Vet QB that has some question marks, can we just go ahead and sign Teddy Bridgewater? I've been with Bridgewater since the whole Tank for Teddy talk in 2013.

I'd take him over Bradford and certainly only AJ FrigginMcCarron, Case Keenum and Kirk Cousins.

I am not against going for Bridgewater! He is a little lean and smaller hands, but has shown he can play QB position in the NFL.

McCarron is just the better fit if we are only keeping a veteran QB for a season or two. I feel Bridgewater could still be an NFL starter in due time and if we start winning with Bridgewater and then we used the number one pick on a QB, the media will still want that QB to play whether we are winning or not.

I guess at times my biggest fear is the Hoyer/Manziel season when we had a winning season, but we still put in Manziel anyways. If the system is working for a change, I hope they don't just decide to change it.

I thought Teddy had some pretty negative things to say about Cleveland after the draft.

On the Browns not taking him....

“I actually told my agent that’s not the place where I wanted to be,” Bridgewater said on May 13, 2014.

Perhaps that was out of context. Perhaps he would change his mind now. Who knows.

He is also the most likely to qwell a QB controversy by simply getting hurt in the next year or two, fully clearing the way for Baker.

Sam Bradford is probably the most likely guy to get hurt but I get your point.

This sort of eventuality has to be considered. The Browns will undoubtedly need their rookie QB to start this season and I don't think Darnold or Mayfield will be anywhere near ready.

Moreover, with Haslam notoriously impatient, I don't think it unlikely that he expects the rookie QB to have Goff or Wentz-like seasons in year two. Don't see Darnold, Allen or Mayfield being ready then either.

#Rosen2018.

If Darnold isn't ready by year 2 then he was never any good to begin with.

I don't believe this is the case. I think he'll be more than ready by year 2. I think he might make a case to the coaching staff to start some of the final games of this season depending on his progression all year and where the team stands.

Allen and Mayfield, yeah maybe not. But that's because they're developmental prospects. Darnold is pretty damn good, just has some mechanical things to sort out to reach his full potential.

But also...I don't think it's an inevitability that the rookie QB has to start this year. Even if the bridge QB gets hurt, you still have Kizer fighting for snaps. He's proven to be pretty durable too, so I don't think you'll find yourself in a situation where you're forced to play the rookie much earlier than you want.

$17-22m/yr on a guy who almost lost a leg and with his 2 fully healthy seasons has a 28 TD/22 INT mark?

I get you may have to slightly overpay for some FA to come here..I get that. But mostly everyone is freaking out about paying Cousins $32m/yr (I get it) but wants to pay Teddy only $10m/yr less than him?

I'm sorry but that is also overpaying.

Now if we can bring him in for like $9-11m/yr (only b/c we have so much cap space) then by all means pull that trigger. But if it even gets close to the $20's, no way.

Bridgewater was sort of underwhelming for me before his knee exploded.

Pretty limited in what he can do through the air, but also not a bad player by any means.

Not sure he's the right fit, honestly. If they could even go get Josh McCown back, that would be superb.

I truly want a guy who is going to command the QB room and teach Josh Rosen what he needs to know with regards to becoming a professional.

While I agree with you about the dollar amount, I believe relative to the market, Teddy or Bradford or McCarron will get somewhere around that. You may want him at 9-11 a year but the fact is he's going to get significantly more than that. Mike Glennon got a 3 year 45 million dollar deal last year with 18.5 gtd so I am using that as a bench mark for this year's free agent class.

I think whoever the Browns sign will have a large upfront price tag and like Glennon, will be expendable after year 1 or 2. For the record Glennon will be cut today.

Yeah if we could bring in McCown, who has stated he really likes Hue & enjoyed his time here in CLE, that would be fantastic.

It just all depends on how bad the Jets want to go all-in on Cousins.
