Cleveland Indians Rumors Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Why is it stupid? LaPorta was a higher rated prospect than both Pomeranz and White. It just goes to show that you don't always get what you expect from your prospects.

If we could actually have Jimmenez longer than two years, I may be more willing to go with this. Can you imagine trading this guy in two years when we can not afford him, for prospects? I can! At that point Hafner, Choo will not be here. Not sure what OF prospects we have that are ready to come up in the next 1-2 years. Pitching was the one area we had great prospects to look forward to. That is just reality. Besides Kipnis, AC, Bratley and LC there is very little to get exited about in terms of the every day lineup. (The jury is till out on Kipnis and Chiss.)

Perfect. Someone tell me when he stops whining about this crap.

I think you just made the entire point of why we got Ubaldo now. It's because that players like Hafner, Choo, Sizemore and maybe Cabrera will not be here in three years. We knew our window to actually win is this year. Next year. The year after next. 2011. 2012. 2013 That's our new window. The window has been moved up acquiring Ubaldo. That's not a bad thing. We realize we can't pay our real good players when they are FA's or even close to being FA's. We have about two years left before we lose many core players, including Ubaldo. Win right now. Right now being in the next 2 1/2 years.

I don't see why that can't be possible. Our young kids are getting the good experience now. Kids like Justin, Josh, Carlos, Carlos, Michael, Astrubal, Jason, Lonnie, etc, etc, etc, will all get real valuable experience this year especially if we happen to make the playoffs. There is no reason to believe we can't be actual title contenders the next two years. A healthy Choo and Sizemore (lower contract), hafner for at least one more good year, and continued improvement from Brantley, Cabrera, and a SP staff ALL damn good young pitchers, including Ubaldo. Win Now.

Hearing Ubaldo won't pitch in Boston because he is too "mentally beat up." Not getting off to a good start with me

Before the deadline: Fans bitchin' and moaning.

After the deadline: Fans still bitchin' and moaning.

Where were you 'hearing' this?

Here's two tweets from Castrovince:

castrovince (Anthony Castrovince) Manny Acta says Ubaldo is "pretty beat up physically" from travel and likely won't start until TEX series next weekend. #Indians

castrovince (Anthony Castrovince) Acta also said Ubaldo's a little beat up mentally from all the rumors.

I really don't have a problem with this. He had a rough time in his one inning stint recently, he's changing teams and leagues, had an all day physical in Arizona. I think we're only talking about giving him one or two days extra.

As someone who used to travel for business, take a red eye flight and hop right in to a 8 AM client presentation off a cab ride from the airport, I find it kind of humorous. But we're not talking about the real world here - we're talking major league baseball.

People were bitching that we never make any big moves (including myself). We make a big move and people are still pissed. Some of you will bitch for the sake of bitching. There is no guarantee any of those prospects will be as good as Ubaldo. I'm not saying they will be busts, because I do think Pomeranz is going to be nice.

This is my problem with this: There are some people who were not bitching by what our approach has always been.

I really could care less about not getting Ludwick. Dude is batting .192, 0 home runs, with 9 RBIs since the all-star break.

It's much harder for a hitter to switch leagues, than it is a pitcher midway through the season. Being in a slump, and facing pitchers you're not used to is an adjustment. No point in giving up anything for that.

I see a lot of people talk about the future of the outfield. Thomas Neal is no slouch as a 23 year old prospect:

Look at his numbers. He has always gotten on base and hit for a good average. The reason he took a little slide in the rankings from minor league scouts is his disappointing power numbers when he rose to AAA. He also seemed to struggle with stikeouts a little more this season. It seems excusable from a 23 year old who just made a move up to the top minor league club. Still, he is a season and a half removed from hitting 22 home runs. If he were on a team with less of a win now mentality, he would have been called up to the big leagues a year ago. The Giants didn't even have room for Brandon Belt - their best prospect period - for most of the season.

Maybe this isn't Neal's year to break out, but I'm more comfortable looking forward to his play than the possibility of Shelly Duncan returning.
