Free Agent 2012 Targets

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
One smaller FA to possibly consider is James Anderson of the Spurs. His option wasn't picked up so he'll be an unrestricted FA. Will only be 23 and was the 20th pick of the 2010 draft. Was good scorer at Oklahoma St and is a fairly solid perimeter shooter.

Probably wouldn't cost a ton and the Cavs could use a young SG. Might be worth a look. I always look for some low risk low cost players and he's one.

And the Spurs and Cavs have a history of swapping marginal role players...

I still think danny green and alonzo gee was the product of a secret trade or a lost bet

Greg Oden anyone?

Having knee surgery again. Depends on the price tag. But he is still only 24 and we have some good doctors in Cleveland.

I'm too scared thinking of the knee injury. That is way too many surgeries on that knee.

I'd be willing to work out a 1 year deal with a TO for a 2nd, but his last full game was Dec. 1, 2009. I can't imagine investing big bucks or multiple years in him. I have no doubt that somebody will overpay for him though and I hope we aren't that team.

I wouldn't mind Gerald Wallace or Nicholas Batum. I wouldn't mind signing Hibbert either, but we would need to make an high offer for Hibbert so the Pacers won't match. I read somewhere that Hibbert could make an average salary of $11M.

I'd like to give the following guys offers (in order of importance):

1. Roy Hibbert (give him a max deal)
2. Greg Monroe (no max but a nice deal, somewhere between MLE and 10mil)
3. Javale Mcgee (between MLE and 10mil)
4. OJ Mayo (MLE - 10mil)
5. Nicolas Batum (MLE - 7mil)
6. Gerald Wallace (MLE)
7. Evan Turner (MLE)
8. Landry Fields (3mil)

Put all the centers at the top because that is/will be the biggest need. We will be drafting a wing, so we need to try and sign a big.

We could possibly have enough money to nab two of those guys. If we end up on the right side of some trades financially as well such as dropping Sessions off for picks and a TPE or trading Varejao for an expiring/TPE/picks and so on, we could be looking at having a LOT of cap space.

Curious why you would give more money to Hibbert than Monroe? I have watched both about equally, but can't say I've watched either closely, so I'm really not sure who is better. It does seem statistically that Monroe is the slightly better player though, and younger.

I would be very happy with either for the record.

Monroe's stats are inflated because he's the best player on one of the worst teams in the league. Hibbert is a starter on a playoff team. I also like his size (7'2").

But yes, I'd be happy with either as well.

Um, a few guys on that list won't even be free agents. Greg Monroe and Evan Turner are still on their rookie deals and their teams can decide if they want to pick up modest extensions (forgone conclusions). Gerald Wallace as a player option for almost $12M and won't turn that down to make $6M for us. I doubt he turns it down without getting a deal for at least as much for a few more years. Hibbert, McGee, Mayo and Batum are restricted free agents, so they'd need to be overpaid to get their current teams to let them go. Landry Fields is the only true free agent, and I wouldn't mind him, but I think we could find a better fit.

***On a side note, I'm not sure why so many people are pro-Hibbert. His game doesn't fit with the offense that Scott runs, doesn't fit with Kyrie's strengths, doesn't fit with Andy or Tristan, or anyone else. Yes, he's big. Yes, he can walk without falling down. That's the extent of his appeal. It's not fantasy rosters being built, they have to click on the floor. Hibbert isn't a pick-and-roll player (like Kyrie needs in a big man). He's not a pick-and-pop guy either. His mobility is average, at best, and will only decline (pretty quickly) as he ages. Brook Lopez and Spencer Hawes are restricted free agent centers that would fit the offense MUCH better and JaVale McGee is a restricted free agent that fits the defense MUCH better. I just don't get the Hibbert love.

Well, I can understand that (I like Hibbert's size more too; plus he was on Parks and Rec which I like lol). I just would think that Monroe would need to be offered more than $10M for the Pistons not to match, and if I missed out on Hibbert with a MAX deal, I'd at least consider paying close to that for Monroe.

Of course, as noted above, I don't think Monroe is a true RFA. And I like Lopez as an option too at C.

Anyone know what Nikola Pekovic's contract looks like? I think he has a 3 year deal but wasn't sure if there was any riders on the 3rd year and whether he's a UFA at the end of the deal
