Haslem set to meet with Cavs soon.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I hear ya ....If Miami would be interested in that option I'd do it. But, do you really think that Gooden is the type guy that Shaq wants beside him ? We'll see, it may truly end up being discussed if the Cavs throw a tough offer to Haslem that Miami would have a tough time matching...

I'd rather not help the heat out - if we take Haslem away from them for nothing in return, it is a big blow to them. If we send them guys back, we help them out.

Sign haslem
Trade Drew + Newble for a future pick and a backup center
sign Z + Jasikevicius
let the Hawks steal Damon Jones away from the heat - the heat are in trouble - two starters gone and only the MLE to replace them with.

There is one FA out there we need to sign before Haslem. Donyell Marshall. The guy is a great outside threat, plays D, and battles on the glass.

I like your thinking lyXo, but I wouldn't give up both Gooden and Sasha for Haslem. Maybe if it was Newble with Gooden I may be swayed as Newble has a few more years to run on his contract. I would not pay Cliff much more then the minimum as his game is ailing. He just isn't the player he once was, but if other options fail, he is an option.

I don't want Cliff Robinson sorry guys, maybe marshall and maybe if Gilbert is dead set on getting far since we are most likely retaining Z bring in SAR for some bench minutes. But don't send Drew or Sasha to the Heat, this will be their loss and our gain just like teh Hughes situation, I love taking other teams players weakening them and strengthening us. We just flip flopped spots with the Wizards now that we have Hughes. If we steal Haslem and deal Gooden for someone and land a SAR type guy and Z and Sarunas that will work out well. I hope we do go over cap and bring in some impact players for the 2nd squad.

if we can get donyell on the cheap ? then hell yeah, i would love to have him here.

he is a great pick n roll player (he carved us up by doing it)

I concur with Karma on Cliff Robinson. I saw him play a bit in Jersey this past year. There isn't much left in the tank.

I'm curious why there's so little discussion of Donyell Marshall as a possible power forward acquisition. I think he's a good defender, I know he's a good rebounder, and, to me the most telling point, he can shoot the three with the best of them. I've never heard talk of him being a troublemaker either. If we're so intent on upgrading at the power forward spot, why isn't Marshall a stronger candidate than Haslem? Maybe we couldn't sign him as cheaply. In any event, I'd be interested in more discussion of Marshall.

Cheers.

i always thought the consensus was he was going back to chicago..he still had a home there, and i guess he contacted them before they approached him..

Marshall will get MLE level money from someone. It will take about $5 million to sign him. If Sarunas gets $3 million than the Cavs might not have enough left for him.

Even with all the Cavs cap space there's still a limit to how many players they can add and how much they can pay them. They will still have to trade someone to clear more cap space if they intend to sign a starting caliber PF.

Is haslem just a smokescreen? The CBA may have changed in what teams can do when they have early bird rights. The old rule was early bird rights gave a team up to the league average salary from the year before - or about $5.5 million. I've heard some speculation they can also renounce their MLE and use it as well. Perhaps the cavs goal is to get the heat to use the MLE towards haslem, making it cheaper to sign Damon Jones away. Without the MLE, the heat can only offer Jones $3.0 million.

I doubt it's a smoke screen, Haslem fits like a glove for this team, we need to deal Gooden after the market for PF's dries up. Right now there is Stromile Kwame and many other pf's out there Chandler and such...once they are all signed we should try to deal gooden all depending on if we get Haslem. Drew is more talented people yes. But his weaknesses are what we lack and Haslem is the better fit. I know im still gonna get people sayin no no drew can score drew can do more on the offensive end. Yes it's true but we don't need that we need defense and rebounding and he won't be concerned with that his basketball IQ is erratic and he lacks focus. Haslem will come cheaper and why pay for someone who does what you don't need? Haslem is teh choice. I want him to be in a Cavalier uni plain and simple..

Well, I've always liked Haslem because he always works so damn hard, just like Boozer did. He is undrafted, and the only advantage that gives him, is to know that he has to work hard to make a living in the NBA. As a lot of you might know, undrafted players has the reputation of being hardworking, which many has to be, since they worked their way up to the big League trought CBA and NBDL, etc.
The fact that they can't write "He was the #?? pick in the NBA Draft 2000" on their bio on basketball cards or at NBA.com will hurt any undrafed freeagent when teams are looking for additonal players for their roster. And that's pure facts, a undrafted player will always be hurt on the paper, only because he wasn't picked in the draft, no matter how he plays or the rest of that paper looks. Ben Wallace is undrafted, he's Defensive Player of the year three times, he has won a championship with a team full of underdogs with no NBA superstar, but the thing that makes that amazing is that no one ever drafted Wallace, he got there by hard work. I love Ben Wallace, and the way he made it to the top of the League. But damn, this thread isn't about being undrafted, it's about wheiter Cavs should pick Haslem or maybe look for someone else.

Well, Haslem is a hardworking player, just the way a real powerforward should be. He might not be as big and strong as Boozer, but he is way more atheltic, and of course, he is still young and willing to learn. He can run a fastbreak, and being able to do that, he would suit Cavaliers well, which should be able to play fastbreak offense very well.

Another possibility would maybe be to get Stromile Swift? There where many rumors about Cavaliers being interessted in this guy last year, but Memphis is ready to match any realistic offer given to him?
I think any of these two guys would suit Cavaliers well, and might be just we need to get things moving our way and get a playoffs spot.

Well, let's just discuss this rumors, read what the news says about it and on 22th of July or further on trought the offseason, Cavaliers will probably have a new powerforward, and of course a shooting guard, and maybe a starting or a back-up point guard.

(It's still pretty hard for a 15 year old Norwegian to express himself on a different language than his main language, but I think I'm doing just fine, hope you understand what I mean by everything I'll be writting here).

Man it's good too be back with you guys here at RCF! :D

Welcome Norway. Nice to hear from you again. And don't worry about your ability to communicate. You write more clearly and spell better than most of us on this board.

I think Marshall talk might be limited because the guy is 32. This team is going to have a bunch of new players in the rotation as well as a new coach which means new systems on the offense and defense, so it will realistically take a couple years to get it together. At 32, how many years do you got left really? I think Marshall is a better fit as a last piece on a contender

So why wouldn't he fit here? We are contenders. Our starting lineup is nearly set. Donyell wouldn't be brought in here to start, but to come off the bench and provide scoring/rebounding/toughness, be that backup big man that would be the last player we need. At 32 he'll provide vet leadership that we need with a young crowd. He doesn't seem to have quite lost a step like Cliff Robinson has, it seems. But then again, Lucious Harris didn't seem to either and we all knew what happened with him here.
