It has come to this... Cavs "exploring" trades

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Derrick Williams needs a change of scenery. I believe he will carve out a nice career with his new team. He'll never live up to his pre-draft billing, but he'll be a nice player.

Luol Deng is a nice fit...but the Bulls still want to be that second round playoff team that gets bounced by Indiana or Miami

not necessarily

that franchise is notorious for being excessively cap-conscious, no matter how much it hurts the team. with the emergence of jimmy butler and lack of extension with deng last summer, consensus seems to be they are going to move forward with butler as their guy. now that rose has gone down, it's more logical than ever to trade deng for whatever young, cheapish assets they can.

You would think they could get more for Williams.

Interesting trade. Who knows, Williams might be a good stretch 4 alongside Cousins? Defensively though, it raises questions... Min getting an energy/defense guy is a good addition to a squad full of firepower

Sacramento already has Travis Outlaw who is basically Williams in 4 years... Pointless, but glad we didn't grab him. I question whether some of these GMs understand fit. I'm guessing no. Grant is seemingly one of them.

Derrick will thrive in Sacramento. they want him as SF Adelman never did

• There is some relevance to a suggested potential trade involving the Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers, league sources said. The Sixers are likely to shop small forward Evan Turner, an unrestricted free agent at season’s end. The Cavs are exploring the idea of landing a starting-caliber small forward. It could be a good match, depending on the Cavs’ desire to delve into the uncertainty of Turner’s contract. The possible trade discussion was first mentioned by the New York Daily News.

• Still, while GM Chris Grant likes to make trades and is always willing to listen, the Cavs are not actively trying to make a deal.

• The possibility also exists the Sixers will hold on to Turner and re-sign him in the summer. He has played well and been a team leader under new coach Brett Brown. He could evolve into a team centerpiece with rookie Michael Carter-Williams and others.

• League sources believe Sacramento Kings swingman Marcus Thornton is available. Thornton is viewed as a talented scorer, but an average (at best) defender and facilitator. He has fallen out of new Kings coach Michael Malone’s rotation. Thornton did score 24 in a win over Brooklyn a few weeks ago, so he does have some value.

• The Chicago Bulls may look to shake things up after it was announced Derrick Rose will miss the season. Rose underwent surgery on his right knee Monday. The Bulls still want to win and get into the playoffs, sources said. But if things head south quickly, they could gut the roster and aim for a high lottery pick to pair with Rose for when he returns.

• Small forward Luol Deng is a candidate to get traded if the Bulls go that route. A team source said if the Bulls do trade Deng, they would have to get what they consider a steal (a young player and picks) to trade him within the Eastern Conference. The asking price from a Western team likely wouldn’t be as high.

Ugh. Is there a young player on the roster they would be interested in besides Dion? I doubt they really want Zeller/Sims/Felix...

I doubt the Cavs make any major move until January 6th when they decide on Bynum's option.

Not a fan of these trade ideas. Wait and see approach imo.

Soooo...not to point out the obvious or anything but for those who've suddenly decided Evan Turner is a major upgrade for the Cavs do recall that for his first three years in the league he was considered a total bust, hot garbage, and a blown pick right? Lo and behold it appears the light has come on in the fourth year and we gotta have him. If that dude had already been on the Cavs 85% of you would've run him off already. Yet most of the Cavs "core" that has now been dismissed as a lost cause is all at 3 years or under of NBA experience. Hmmm....

I will say this about Turner. He took a full year tOSU before he got it. By his third year he was dominant(but also ball dominant). Some players take a year or more each new level up they go before it clicks for them. If we made a move for him, I would prefer to think Philly is still in long term asset building mode and attempt to get him for draft picks. But he has played well enough this year to possibly merit better offers or Philly holding on to him and letting the market being set for him in the summer by another team in RFA
