JJ Hickson: AKA "4 TIMES THE SHYTTTTTTTTT"

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: JJ Hickson: Progressing like a fat Snail...

I wouldn't want to be J.J. Hickson right now. He is the only young asset on the roster drafted high enough to have been expected to be an impact player... all his faults will be over-scrutinized. We are a rebuilding team trying to rebuild with one young player.

Imagine if The Kings only drafted one guy in the top third of the draft in the past five years... and that player was Jason Thompson. I'd wear a flak-jacket to and from games. It just so happens that Sacramento is a team that has five years of rebuilding under it's belt, so nobody really cares that Thompson is a faulted but serviceable player in a rotation.

Exactly Keys...

See, my problem with JJ is a little different from the problems I've had in the past with other players... Guys like Pavs and Z just sucked ass, didn't fit and we could have done without them (IMO).... My problem with JJ is not from a talent standpoint (or the lack of talent he has) he's not taking advantage of the things he can control himself.... Again, I'm not concerned with his offensive game and the deficiencies within that aspect of his game.... But, the hustle, the energy, the rebounding, the shot blocking, the defense etc... All things that he can control (and should have as a young, energetic, 21 year old) and contribute with in a major way and he's not putting forth the effort to do so....

He should be inspired with this particular type of team.... He should be showcasing everything in his arsenal and he's simply not doing any of that on a consistent basis and it's more than disappointing...

He's our Stromile Swift.

Re: JJ Hickson: Progressing like a fat Snail...

JJ will not progress anytime soon. I have already noticed a trend with him that is not a good one. If he starts off getting a couple buckets he tends to be more involved in the game. If he misses those first couple he starts pressing and taking bad shots. Then he eventually loses interest in playing any type of D or rebounding. This tells me he does not have the mental makeup to be good. With him I see Gooden. This is exactly what we got out of Gooden. And there is noone staying in his ass to keep him out of that attitude. I know Scott did early, but if he is doing it now, it sure is hell is not showing.

Re: JJ Hickson: Progressing like a fat Snail...

I'm pissed he has no confidence in the jumper he worked on all summer. Teams are leaving him wide open for that jumper. Take the jumper and it will open up everything else.

The rebounding thing is a lack of effort. Boozer lived off garbage pts and rebounds when he was drafted. JJ could be the same if he wanted to rebound the ball.

Re: JJ Hickson: Progressing like a fat Snail...

I don't know how you get to the pros and have no idea how to position yourself defensively and box out (cough cough JJ). Pure laziness to not do those two things.

Re: JJ Hickson: Progressing like a fat Snail...

That's who Hickson reminds me of: Gooden. There are differences in their games (Gooden was actually more productive), but I get the same basic feeling watching both of them, namely that they could both be a lot more effective if they were mentally "there" and, second, that neither of them are ever going to "get it." We kept hearing last year that Hickson wasn't another Gooden (in a good way), but I'm not so sure.

Re: JJ Hickson: Progressing like a fat Snail...

No. Gooden was a jump shooter. Hickson takes it to the hole... at least he is tonight.

Re: JJ Hickson: Progressing like Olajuwon

Me after J.J.'s cross-over...

Forget what I said about JJ lol. Came through big tonight, though he could still rebound better. I would love for him to start being a consistently 16 and 8 player.

Their games are different, but I think the resemblance people see is more of mental one... zoning out and watching the D suffer, confidence that comes and goes, that feeling that they are finally getting it only to see a step backward. JJ has upside but I'm very guessing that 21 will become 26 eventually and we won't be seeing a substantially different player (like Gooden). Hope I'm wrong, but the mental part is a concern.

The mental difference I see is that Hickson knows he's good and can be really good whereas Drew Gooden barely knew his own name. Which means a lot.

I'll stick with it being more of an ego/frustration thing. That's my theory.

Re: JJ Hickson: Progressing like Olajuwon

Dude needs to quit smoking sleepy schwag before the games.

Re: JJ Hickson: Progressing like Olajuwon

Yellow shoes.

Pretty much sums up the entire situation.

Re: JJ Hickson: Progressing like Olajuwon

I can't believe how this thread flipped because he had a somewhat OK game last night. The only reason why he came back in the game and did alright last night is because he got benched 4 minutes into the game. He was likely told during his time sitting there, take another jump shot and you might as well go take a shower.

If that were the case, I'd like it better. Cause it tells us that he finally listened, adjusted, and got rewarded.
