JJ Hickson: AKA "4 TIMES THE SHYTTTTTTTTT"

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: JJ Hickson: AKA "Egg Fart"

JJ was beast last night

Re: JJ Hickson: AKA "Egg Fart"

Not too mention he's on a team that lost 26 straight by an average of more than 10 Pts/game.

If the team's sucky performance was dragging him down then his on-court +/- (-15) would be a lot higher than his off-court +/- (-8.1) but in reality it's a lot lower. Unfortunately the bums at 82games still haven't updated since Jan 19th.

With Andy out of the picture, which big would you think could possibly be outplaying JJ?

Well, as of Jan 19th ... the answer was pretty much all of them (in the net +/- category).

Re: JJ Hickson: AKA "Egg Fart"

^^ we all know he played awful for a long stretch. I posted his +/- numbers from the last 7 games. In 5 of the 7 games, they look quite good. It's certainly a small sample size but is he showing signs of finally getting it. Keeping an eye on this is probably the single most important thing to look at the rest of the season.

Re: JJ Hickson: AKA "Egg Fart"

I wasn't aware that +/- was the great equalizer when it came to predicting future success. Additionally, I think it's a hollow statistic for this Cavalier team, as this season has been brutal. A new offense, a new defense, new players, new coach, etc.

What's important is that they're progressing. Now all the nay sayers may very well be right. No doubt that JJ has a ton of work left to do. But I like seeing guys develop, so let's take a look at JJ's stat lines the past 2 months:

January:
13.3 ppg/10.9 rpg/1.5 apg/ 1.3 bpg shooting 40% in 28 mpg

February:
18 ppg/11.1 rpg/1.4 apg/1.5 bpg/ shooting 48% in 36 mpg

So the increase in playing time has obviously led to an increase in scoring, but his FG% has been raised dramatically. Also, 15 of his 15 double double's have come within the last 2 months. So why has this happened? For one, confidence. But the other?

Take a look at Sessions' last 2 months:

January:
13.4 ppg/6.2 apg/3.1 rpg/ .8 spg shooting 46% and a 3:1 A/TO ratio.

February:
20 ppg/8.7 apg/4.1 rpg/1.9 spg shooting 57% and a 4.5:1 A/TO ratio. That's All star shit.

In conclusion, I think we're starting to see this offense and what the PF and PG are capable of in it.

I was at the game last night and was watching JJ, a few things that I noticed were:

Way Better Positioning under the basket.

Way Better decision making, He effectively used the pump fake and also did not pump fake when unnecessary.

Way Better hands on rebounds, passes still to be determined

Better touch around the glass.

I was starting to give up on J.J. but I always forget just young and raw he was. He has made really great strides, sure he'll still have shitty games, but you can't help but be re-optimistic when you see games like this. I'm starting to think that a line-up with J.J. and Big Sully makes sense. Sullinger is a great interior passer, I think he and Hickson could develop a nice 1-2 post tandem.

i don't think you can play sully with hickson and be a good nba team. a 6'8 and 6'9 frontcourt is just way too small. teams built like the lakers would eat us up with size

You put those stats after Chris Paul's name and he's under consideration for player of the month. Sessions does't even get a highlight on sportscenter.

The 3 and 7 month might have something to do with that. MIGHT

Tough love... We're lighting a fire under JJ.... Just not when he farts...

Not the point. The point is he's played very well. So well that if you just saw the stat line you'd think the name attached was Chris Paul or Deron Williams.

Outscoring the opponent during time on the floor (+/-) or for the game (winning) are the only thing that matters.

There is no such thing as "the only thing that matters"...

Especially when you're rebuilding.
