Posey signs with Hornets. PIP suicide watch is on

Re: Posey opted out; On Cavs radar?

Whoever is signed for this role is probably not going to get major minutes. Not sure if the Cavs should invest big money or the entire MLE in this spot. Right now the Cavs will have Wally and Sasha playing the majority of the SG minutes. Both can also provide backup minutes at SF. There will also be times when Gibson and West play together in the backcourt. Of course it all changes if Wally gets traded.

I like Posey and he would help but have to agree with others that it would be a mistake to hand out a 4 or 5 year contract to a 31 year old perimeter player.

Pietrus is also probably seeking the full MLE. I'd be more willing to invest the money in him rather than Posey due to age.
If the Cavs did decide to spend the full MLE on another wing player than Josh Childress would be my top choice. The most versatile of this group and is also still young.

It might make more sense to just go cheap to fill this spot. It's mainly for depth purposes and can probably be done at a cheap price. Kirk Snyder is a young SG with decent all around ability who can defend fairly well and is someone the Cavs have had interest in the past. He's also now an unrestricted FA since the T-Wolves didn't give him a qualifying offer.

Re: Posey opted out; On Cavs radar?

I do agree with you to a degree Narl, but I look at Pietrus as a possible long term piece. He is defietely in the mold of a bowens who is a athletic hard nosed swing player who can play defense and knock down shots. Wether he is used as a starter when there are injuries or off the bench in the rotation if he comes here for the mle or less, I think he is a significant roster upgrade that we need to look into. Other than him, I dont see a point to sign someone to just sign someone. That does not count any starters like maggette, but rather any role players at this point.

Use the vet min to fill out our roster unless we can get Pietrus. He is exactly what we need in our rotation. Wally is gone in a year no matter what, and pavs could be gone in a year too. Even if we trade for a starting sg, we need a good back-up at 2/3. No one else comes to mind that i think we could get at the mle that seems worth it.

Re: Posey opted out; On Cavs radar?

My only concern is whether or not Pietrus can be as effective in a half court offense, rather than the run n gun offense of the Warriors.

I do think he fits though. He is very long and an athletic freak with the ability to throw down some amazing dunks in traffic. He also has a pretty good jumper and is a great defender. Honestly, he is a better version of Sasha and would probably start here.

If we worry about this too much we will find that noone really fits. Our offense is not going to change and since defense is his specialty, we could only hope that he would catapult us in that regard and give Brown what he lost in Larry while being serviceable enough on the offensive end not to be a liability. I think he could handle that task and be successful.

Re: Posey opted out; On Cavs radar?

Signing Josh Childress would be a fantastic move -it would make the offseason in my opinion- but we don't have any more than the MLE to offer. I think some team will offer him more before July 9th.

I think the Cavs are looking to wait for the initial big money rush to wear off and get some role players later in free agency. Once the available money other teams well under the cap dries up (33 milion for Beno? Honestly?) Ferry will have more leverage in negotiations.

Like it or not, that seems to be his style.

Only teams with the loot is Phili, GS, and Memphis. Phili not interested. Atlanta might offer a bit more to keep him, but not alot of players and he and pietrus are at this point slipping. Not sure if gilbert wants to pay him 11 mill with luxury tax though, but he might.

Re: Posey opted out; On Cavs radar?

Well we'd better start trying to nab Piertrus, apparently Posey is all but a Celtic, though I'm sure that was already stated in this thread. Just reiterating, because this is going to get frustrating fast.

Re: Posey opted out; On Cavs radar?

i like posey a lot, but not for the full MLE or for a 4-5 deal. Pietrus would be nice, but I'm wary at throwing a lot of $$ at him.

Childress... I'd love the Cavs to throw the MLE at him and see if Atlanta matches, but after they re-sign Josh Smith. I like what Childress showed in teh playoffs and I think he'd fit well here.

But honestly, the best avenue the Cavs have for adding bodies is through trades.

Re: Posey opted out; On Cavs radar?

Pietrus can't be any worse than Newble or was our SG a few years ago or even Larry Hughes for that matter. If Pietrus comes in and plays defense between him and Lebron we're going to get some fastbreak points just off steals.

Re: Posey opted out; On Cavs radar?

Pietrus is Sasha. Period. He has the same mental lapses that take him completely out of games. I'll pass.

Sign me up for the full MLE to Josh Childress move. I've wanted him here for a couple years now, and I think he'd flourish in Cleveland. Even if he does have one of the ugliest shots I've ever seen.

I really like Josh as well, but i'm thinking Atlanta would certainly match that offer.

It's Atlanta. The best thing would be to wait until Philly makes their proposal to Josh Smith, and the same day offer the full MLE to Childress for 4 years. Give him time to cash in on a nice big contract while he's still in his prime.

Then Atlanta is sitting their dealing with which offer to match, and as inept as that FO has been over the years, along with all the issues with ownership fighting amongst themselves, I wouldn't be shocked to see them let Childress walk.

I can't see them losing Smith, he's too much of a freak. Childress is just their 6th man.. I could really see us stealing him if the timing of the offer is right.

The thought process is that Philadelphia would offer Josh Smith a huge deal in the 10-12M a year range that Atlanta would match.

Then the idea would be that the Hawks wouldn't match a MLE offer to Childress after having paid Smith so much.

Any1 else find it encouraging that Wine and Gold thanked this post???

It seems to me that Danny boy wants to offer J Chill the full MLE but only after ATL matches Philly's offer to J-Smith

Man we would be luckier than hell to snag Childress at MLE money, we can onlyhope that Atlanta is dumb enough not to match....Kid is a baller and a very good defender...awkward style btu I love his game...I think he is a starting 2 guard for this team IMO
