Pryor, Posey, Herron suspended 5 Games next season

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think what people are trying to say is, yes it was against the NCAA rules but those rules should not have been there in the first place to begin with. How are you going to punish someone for selling something that belongs to them? Thats just like your mom grounding you for selling a game that she gave to you a year ago which i bet many of you have done before. Yes I know a game and the golden pants/jersey/trophy/ring are not the same to a football fan or a player but in all reality they are both just gifts. Yes it was stupid on the players to sell these items that alot of people including me would kill for but 5 games is a bit harsh. Lower it down to 3 weeks and it should be just fine.

What rules would you like then?

Rules that punish players for doing something illegal which this incident was not.

Okay good. When a player commits to a University to play football and is getting a full ride to do so, any contract signed between the Uni and the player should not imply the player should respect all traditions of same university, and the player can do as he pleases even though it may be harmful to the University but not illegal in the eyes of the law.

I got it. Let's do it then.

You're being a little thick, not sure if it's intentional or not. Look, the problem is that if you allow players to sell jerseys and rings for a profit, it opens the flood gates. Players would start selling a shoe to agents or boosters for $1M to attend or even just stay at a university. The wealthiest schools would win...the small schools sports programs would be destroyed.

It has to be "zero tolerance", if not, there's too many loopholes and it's a gigantic mess. There has to be a clear line between college amature sports and the pro's. Payment of a free college tuition, housing, meals, travel expenses is enough.

OK, but the biggest argument I have a problem with is when people say "You're getting your education paid for."

Does that mean they don't need anything else in life?

That actually makes sense but I still think the punishment needs to be reduced to a 2 or 3 game suspension.

Credit Card agreements are pretty lopsided and unreasonable at times.... If you break those rules, it'll get your ass in trouble. It will help you buy a house later though.

High school players sign with colleges so that they can afford the opportunity to make millions in the NFL. Think of it as a loan. Shit isn't going to be written in your favor when the whole reason you are playing is to get the big payoff that only going to college can get you towards.

They are a lot better off than all the non-athletes at the universities. Most kids are taking out loans, working one or more jobs, paying for their housing, food, clothes, etc. College athletes get almost all of that covered. Let's not act like it's a bad gig, they get treated very well. If they need extra cash, there is time for a job....tons of college athletes work part time when their schedule permits.

I agree completely....and think it will be.

A thought; what if Pryor thinks he might be better off staying at OSU as he probably wouldn't be drafted that high this year? Braxton Miller will probably win the QB job next year for the 3 to 5 games Pryor is suspended. What if Miller is damn good and the Bucks win each game? Does Tressell sit Miller down even if he is winning and is very good? I can't see it.

Pryor could be fucked if he does and fucked if he doesn't. Serves him very right.
Miller wouldn't start the year if Pryor came back, not to mention Pryor wouldn't lose his job.

Why not? Who would start? Bauserman? the other guy? Are you saying Tressell would protect Pryor's starting status by not starting Miller?
